Sounds like you're making good progress there I always found it felt like the fabrication went in fits and starts. One day you get a whole panel on and it feels like you're moriting along, the next 3 you're cleaning up welds and planning the next bit. Keep up the good work. I tried some 175/80s on my Fulvia, but wasn't keen, I'm much happier with 175/70s. But with your flared arches and other mods it might suit it to have the larger looking wheels.

Well the festive season has come and gone, I haven't had any time for the lancia of late, I'm busy redoing my bathrooms and this is taking up all my spare time. Will update soon once I've got back to the lancia.

This weekend I managed to get some work done, ground the welds down on the front and rear wheel arch lips and flaired them so suit each other, now for a bit of filler work. Something I've never done before.
Does any one have any pointers on how to work the filler and get the lines right, what tools ect. to use. All tips and tricks welcome.
Ill post a few pictures of the progress tomorrow.
Thx Craig

Starting to get there, its one hell of a job when your a novice. I've built up the top of the fender and sanded it down to just about the right shape, just a few spots to fill. Then I must do the quarter panel and arch lip.
Ill post a pic soon of progress.
Any tips and tricks welcome.

Ah the joys of filler and paint prep….. Looks like a good chunk of progress there Craig I'm far from an expert but I've done filler over welding repairs on a few cars now, from the pictures it looks like you're gong along the right lines A couple of things I've learnt is, it works better for me to put lots of thin layers of filler on, and sand each back in between refining the shape more each time. When you do think you're getting close with the shaping, trust your hand as well as your eyes. Some of the more subtle ripples I find much easier to spot that way. I can also see that you've gone through to the metal in a few places there, every time you run the sandpaper back over those spots you'll be taking more hight off the filler and not really sanding the metal down, you have to be careful there not to reveal high spots. You can carefully tap high spots down with a small hammer, then refilled over them if they are a problem. Finally the rules I give myself with sanding, whether it's filler or prepping for paint, is that when you first think you're about there, you're about halfway through! So just keep sanding

Thanks Goldnrust
Luckly this is the worst area on the car, the other spots should go quicker.

Been at it again, skimmed the fender to continue sanding then I ran out of filler. Sanded the front edge and its coming along nicely.

This is also classy and less radical than removing the roof. I've been talked out off the roof chop. So this is more likely what ill be doing. Just got to find a diy kit. C

Old photo's of a Les Leston steering wheel I modified to fit the lancia. What you think? Also I've made up my mind I am going to remove the roof and covert it into a hardtop for use in winter. Watch this space going to have a go over easter weekend. Craig

Liking the steering wheel, looks very fitting. I'll be interested to see how you're roof chop adventure pans out! I've gotta say I'm glad you've moved away from the Webasto roof idea, as I'm not a fan of them, they seem like all the disadvantages of a soft top (noise, structure removal and weather ingress) without much of the gains (whilst there's some air above you it's not like the immersive feel of no roof). If you're looking to have a hardtop option, will you be keeping the full windscreen in a more normal soft top manner, rather than the F&M stele chop you previously talked about?
