I fear I'm about to annoy my girlfriend by dragging all mine out... it will be down 2 minutes and she'll whinge she can't Hoover Never realised they rereleased the RS500, got all the original ones locked away, will have to get on them.

Ahh yes, sorry getting mixed up with plastic kits. There's a market for 1:24 custom pieces for models, bought wheels etc for a MX5 kit (yet to do anything with them though).

received my new bits of track today, so the track went back up to the disgust of others, except the cat. a simple loop equalise track length, it needs the top lane lifting but ill do that tomorrow. I'm going to get another Caterham, with the track cleaned and tyres sorted they are without doubt my favourite car. If i had a room for a permanant track it would be this, mabie fine tuned. Good bit of variety.

decided to have a dig through my box of rubbish, which is about 15 assorted cars in bits plus extras, and try to make some half decent cars out of it. First one completed started as a beaten and scratched ministock body, with the best 1275gt chassis i could find, correct width axles and nice chrome wheels, Also fitted with orange 25000 rpm motor and bearing on the rear axles instead of the white nylon things, and new tyres. Goes like stink in a straight line, next job is to make it go round corners. Next found a Texaco livered Sierra cosworth which had seen better days, badly scratched and beaten with odd wheels. Polished it to get the rest of the livery off, fitted new wheels and fitted a slightly wider rear axle. Then polished it more and even waxed it.. And then took a really bad picture of it.

A few years back, I brought my boys a Subaru rally scalextric set for Christmas. Snap, in fact I set mine up in the attic and when reroofing my house last year I suddenly remembered it, then went for a look and found it still set up,but the guys who insulated the loft had simply insulated over the top of it. Mine is the Colin McRae edition,my kids have left home now,but I'm tempted to dig it out of the loft and set it up in the spare room. I had that! I loved it, I was deverstated to find out my mum had threw it away one day!

Tonights bitsa build is another mini. I painted this body in about 1998 so its a pretty good survivor considering its been rattling about in a box for a good couple of years. i took it apart back then to re-laquer it and never put it back together. Digging around i found a set of minilights for it, and a broken but fixable chassis. Looked pretty good as a road car, so i cut the head off a spectator and glued it on to finnish the look.

Got some more minis finnished. The bronze donated its chassis for the white one. All these bodies were tired and scratched so theyve all been cleaned and polished and look 10 times better now. Had to keep the 1275GT stripe on the yellow one as there was nothing wrong with it. The only other colour clubman there was is the green one so i'll have to get that one soon. The yellow and white one are standard underneath, the blue one is uprated, and the yellow one is too. Bearings on the rear axle, silicone wires attached to a yellow 20,000RPM motor, and gold wheels and new tyres. I'm starting to thing this scalextric bug could get out of hand.

I had Aurora AFX sets as a kid. They were about Matchbox size cars. Had a rally set with a Capri and mk1 Escort and a LeMans set. Only sold them a couple of years ago.

I love scalextric, it's a fantastic toy. I also love model railways too. Apart from a small minority of kids I feel it's lost on today's youngsters, all they want is electronic tablet type gadgets. I'm in the middle of making my loft into a man cave. I want to keep a few bmx bikes up there. Then one half will be N gauge railway and the other half will be a scalextric layout. I'm wondering whether to sell some track, I've got more than I could ever use and I could buy some more cars with them money. I have a small track built, I'll put some pics up soon.

Have you got any of the Ministox - from what I remember they used the same body moulding, but had a unique chassis with a 360 pickup like the superstox cars.

Yes i had a pair of ministox, i butchered the blue one for the body, and the red one also, still have the chassis but fitted with bodies i painted ages ago. Your right they were the same body moulding and using that was the only way id get a blue 1275GT without painting it.

Last nights restoration. Light use of 1200 wet and dry, followed by metal polish to get the white and yellow markings off, including use of a wooden toothpick to get the marking off around the seams and doorhandles. Once it was all green, polished it using maguires car polish. matching drivers helmet, chassis without broken bumpers, and some better wheels. Might get chrome wheels if i can find 4 of them. Well thats one scratch itched
