I've had plans on building a Classic Scalextric Austin Metro for a while now. I started with a 3d chassis which was designed for the 6R4 variant. This chassis is intended to drop the body of the 6r4 quite dramatically; but in doing so, you have to cut out large sections of the body/arches, which you then cover up by relocating the 6r4 arch extensions higher up. I wanted to keep the narrow Austin body stock but still drop it down to a more realistic height... Cue the butchery! Untitled This gives an idea of where the chassis actually wants to sit Untitled Entertaining, but not what I'm after... Some trimming of the interior was required to clear the rear wheels Untitled The guide mounting needed to be shortened (a lot) to get the guide to sit behind the front valance, and the front axle narrowed to get the wheels to tuck a little. Lots of spacing, trimming and adjusting later and I finish with this: Untitled Untitled If i'm being picky, the rear tyres are a little large, but are needed for chassis ground clearance, and I still need to paint the rear wheel inserts. But the car is awesome... It's super nippy, and handles really well now too. And if you're wondering what the difference is from the original scalextric version: Untitled

Hydro unit gone pop? That is quite dramatic, your end result looks just right. I did one of these kits a while back of a mini clubman. The kit came with arches but I made my own arches instead. I was quite happy with the result, looks good, goes well but could be better. I planned to do a TR7 one with the widest axles I could get but havnt got round to it. Ive seen that some proper Carlos Fandango wheels have recently been released, so that might just tip me over the edge.

Make a very cool cruiser.

Always wanted to do the same with the Metro, but was thinking a cut and shut job on the existing chassis. Where did you find this one?

Stumbled across this on Youtube and it sent me off buying Toranas. Two arrived today with another on its way. The two door fastback version will be out later this year to. Lots of races to watch from a good few years.

Lots of races to watch from a good few years. Nice, I’ve got the Kubota livery Torana (and an XC Falcon to go with it). Cool car, but I run all mine magless, and the skinny FF motor is a bit of a handful. Considering sticking a js chassis on it so I can run a mab motor

Another Torana added to the collection. Ade36, I put the magnets back in mine because they are such a handful without them in.

I spent a bit of time over lockdown converting my roof space into a useable man cave. Ive wall mounted my TV and put my racing sim in but i also had ample space to get my scalextric out. I will expand on this track as i go but its a great starting point. Very nice man cave. Had mine in the loft at first, to cold in the winter and so hot in the summer it warped the track. You also look to have much more head room than I have roof slopes on three sides.

Yea i can stand up no problem which is great. I'm having a Velux fitted soon and we have 5 dyson fans in the house so one of them keeps me cool or warm weather depending
