I've not updated this thread for ages! Sorry about that. I'm also not sure why half of my photo links are broken, I've not changed their hosting, so I guess Facebook must have messed it up. Looks like good news on the French House too. The Agriculture Agency didn't want to intervene, so we should be signing the final paperwork and taking possession in about 2-3 weeks. I've been mega busy doing more decorating on our current house, but have managed to make a bit more progress. Sorry about the rubbish photos, I took them very quickly on my way out of the garage this afternoon. I'll try and get some better stuff up tomorrow. Inner wing Innner wing/Boot Floor Most of the tool 'chest' in the rear arch. I'm going to tidy all of these bits up with a skim of filler, but once that's done they should be invisible. I've finally been able to order the three panels I need from Klokkerholm, which should save me a fair bit of time fabricating. The pressure is really on now!

Good news on the house front. It's amazing how many government agencies seem to want to come and play in house buying compared to the UK. There's around 4 you have to involve here and the paperwork can take up to six months. All good fun.
Best of luck having the motor ready for the move!

France isn't too bad for buying property, but certain organisations have pre-preemptive purchase rights. In our case it's an organisation called SAFER. They get 2 months to make their decision. We tried to have it fast tracked by paying an additional fee, but they refused and took the full 2 months. I think we signed the initial contract at the beginning of October, so it's going to be about 3 1/2 months from start to finish. Anyway, I made a bit more progress today. Got a couple of better photos too. The boot floor isn't too bad, There's a repair or two required, but on the whole better than I expected. I made a start on the repairs on the bottom of the tool/jack cubby today. Basically all of the flanges had rusted away. Hopefully I can get that finished tomorrow.

Cracking rebuild there and the quality of the work is fantastic. How much work is involved getting the body off? I am about to start welding my MK2 LWB up as it needs sills and repairs to the rear chassis so maybe it would be better to pull the shell off. Is there anywhere that sells replacement panels for Shoguns?

I am about to start welding my MK2 LWB up as it needs sills and repairs to the rear chassis so maybe it would be better to pull the shell off. Is there anywhere that sells replacement panels for Shoguns? Thank you. There's a fair bit of work involved in parting the body from the chassis, but it's not too difficult. All of the running gear is bolted to the chassis, so you just need separate anything from the body to the chassis, mainly wiring to the engine, the steering column, gear levers, brake lines etc. Then there are probably 10 body to chassis mounts to unbolt. It took me and two mates the best part of a day to do it, but a lot of it was learning curve! We used an engine crane to lift the front, then supported it and moved the crane around the back. Mine's a SWB though, so I guess weighs quite a lot less. I'd also unbolted all of the doors, wings, bonnet, interior etc. I think it was worth the effort (in fact I couldn't have done it with the body on the chassis). There don't seem to be many panels available for these, but what I've bought has been from a company called Carz2 based in Malvern. They are very helpful and great to deal with. They can get anything that Klokkerholm make and a few other suppliers. I hope you get on well with the welding, just don't be surprised if there's some unexpected work when you start digging around properly. If I can help with anything please let me know. I managed to get the rest of that little panel repaired and welded today. It still needs a bit of weld tidying, but I ran out of time again ( I swear someone steals time in my garage). Seems to fit pretty nicely so I'm happy with the result

Today I had a proper look at the front mounts for the rear seats, they didn't look 'right'. The rust had swollen between the floor and the reinforcement plate underneath and both panels were beyond saving. So I had to remake these bit. The other side is the same too. Floor isn't looking too clever here . I think I've found a guy who thinks he's got a whole one cut out of his mid engined v8 project, so hopefully I can salvage the proper profiles rather than trying to make them or using a flat plate. All of this was above an exhaust heat shield (which dissolved in my hands). It's really thin in a few places.

We tried to have it fast tracked by paying an additional fee Ah yes, you can do that here too, but I think we would generally use a different term than "additional fee"!

I've not updated this thread for ages! Sorry about that. I'm also not sure why half of my photo links are broken irritating as this is one of the best non-scene threads on here

I'm also not sure why half of my photo links are broken irritating as this is one of the best non-scene threads on here I was a bit annoyed about it too . If I get a few spare moments I'll try and fix all of the links, although I don't really know which photos went where to be honest!

Great to see more progress Jon, you've got so much going on at the moment! Keeps you busy It's mental at the moment dude! We just got confirmation of the date for our house purchase completion for France. It's a week tomorrow. Got so much to organise, not least trying to make all of our money go from one French account to another, from the UK, without full online banking access. I predict fun and games when the bank opens tomorrow.

Its great to see these being saved rather than scrapped, the MK1 is a better looking truck than a MK2 in my opinion. Those truck mirrors some are fitted with are cool, shame they wont fit mk2's,
Mine does have a lot of rot but that can all be dealt with, I'm toying with the idea of getting a second chassis to cut repair sections out of which should make life easier We use a company at work that fabricate jigs etc and he has very kindly offered to make me some replacement box section sills.
Keep up the great work its going to be a hell of a truck when its done.

Firstly. Apologies for not updating this thread for so long. I've been really busy getting our house ready for sale. The good news is that we put it on the market about a month ago and within 2 days had 2 really good offers. We accepted the better of the 2 and hopefully we'll be able to complete sometime in the next couple of weeks. We've also booked our very very small wedding at the local registry office. So we're in the country till at least the end of April, but hopefully not too much longer afterwards. As you can imagine, time for car stuff has been a bit thin on the ground, but I have managed to get a few days on the project in the last week. So progress: I sourced a floor section from a guy that had done a rear engine conversion on his shogun. This bit warped a little, but hopefully a skim of filler will see it looking tidy. The other rear seat front mounting point Both my front inner wings in primer. I'm really quite pleased with this now, especially when you remember what they did look like I've got about a month to get it MOT'd so that I can drive it to France. There's still a bit to do, but I really think it'll be done . (hopefully).....

Buying a house in France, selling a house in the UK, restoring a Shogun (now with a deadline) oh, and let's have a wedding in the middle of all this, why don't we? You can't have too many moving parts!
Hero.
Congrats on the forthcoming nuptials, hope everything falls into place for you.

Apparently there's a thin line between brave and stupid Got a little bit more done today. The rear quarter on the other side had looked better. Managed to get all the crud chopped out and a couple of patch repairs done, ready for the new panel to go in tomorrow.

Great to read from you and your Shogun again!
I am very looking forward how it turns out. Must be one of the best Shoguns out there when it´s finished.
