So I went looking for more rust at the back.... Looks like you found a bit... I can't decide if this is better or worse than I was expecting. It will be better soon enough with the quality of your repairs mate. (where is the thumbs up smiley when you need it?)

You see I'd tackle that in one inch squares 'cos I'm a coward. I'd be afraid that if I just cut all the rot out I'd forget how it was supposed to go back together.
I'm sure you can do it with your eyes closed though. Which will be handy since you dropped your welding helmet...

It's even easier when you can barely tell what went where in the first place... I'm taking lots of photos and trying to make replacement panels as I cut them out. Then hopefully it'll all go back together like a jigsaw puzzle. Or I'll just make it up . Hopefully my new helmet will arrive tomorrow and I'll be able to see again. This was £37 delivered. they are sooo cheap compared to the £120 my first ever one cost.

There's going to be no metal left at this rate! This panel has taken me ages to make so far. It's 1.5mm steel, so it's a pig to bend and shape. I also made this one before I realised that the steel was thicker here. So it's a 'prototype' until I can get more 1.5mm steel on Monday. It all forms a box a bit like this: This is how the body mount looked: There's still a bit of rot to cut out, but I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

That´s absolutely stunning what you do to the old girl! Impressive skills, impressive work! And great respect for not giving up in between! L Thanks Lukas, The encouragement on here has certainly helped me keep at it. I'm getting to the stage where I just want it done now! I hope your Mk1's are both coming along well. I have been making progress, but the updates would be eye wateringly dull, so I'm going to save them up until they make something worth looking at. We're off to France again tomorrow, to sign some paperwork for our new house . I'm having the biggest garage evAr . Then I reckon I've got 6 weeks to get the old girl finished before the sale completes and we move. So back soon......

Holy curse word.
You get to a certain stage in a project where there is no turning back. This is one if them.
A lot of skill and time. I would have had a lot of flat plates in there.

It's always good to read others experience of shifting countries, in between the metal bashing of course.

I've managed to get a little bit more done on that back section. I don't think it's my neatest work, but it was a tricky repair and it's all hidden inside other sections. I got this little section made too I'll keep you updated on the move. At the moment we're waiting for a month long consultation period to expire before we get the final go ahead. With any luck we should be able to complete before Christmas.

Just caught up with this thread, some excellent panel making going on there, especially like the MDF formers, great job, and bookmarked now

Thanks Tony and James . I'm starting to run out of time now so really should be cracking on. Got a few big bits done over the last week or so. Salvaging what's left of the body mount I'd best get back to it. It's bit nippy out there today though!

Fantastic update as always. what's the plan for this after it's done? After it's done? The plan for the truck? I'm keeping the thing forever and ever. It'll get re registered in France and used as my run around and utility vehicle.
