Well, lots of have has passed since this first went up. Maybe I can get some sort of record for the longest unsold yet, seemingly reasonably priced, attractive car on RR!
Price increase to reflect latest suspension part replacement and brake work planned!
Model: Mercedes SLK 230K (Kompressor - Supercharged. But you knew that) Automatic.
Year: 1998 on an S
Mileage: A bit over 95,400

MOT: August 2016
Pics: Below
Location: Near J20 M1.
Price: £2,750
Contact details: PM me first, then you can have email/mobile/landline if you're seriously interested.
Impressive boot when roof divider isn't pulled out. As you can see from the later shots the roof divider works, and is in the same condition as the rest of the car.

Seal and trim.
Seal and trim.
No stains on headlining; no leaky hydraulic cylinders. If I don't find a buyer I'm replacing the seals as a preventative, car is 16 years old measure. All rubber seals on the doors and roof have been treated with gummi pfledge.
Nice leather interior.
The door trim which has detached a bit. I think it should be glued but have yet to investigate fully. If you can't spot it, that's why I've never worried about it, but the gap on the armest shouldn't be there.
The usual interior paint wear. It's either worn or been touched in at this age, as it's black rather than contrasting sand or coloured panels it doesn't look so bad.
And now some topless pics. The roof and windows work as they should of course. No modifications installed and never, ever attempted to operate whilst car is in motion.
Engine bay. The grille has a bit of damage caused when I was looking for the A/C point and thought a loose bit was an access cover, it's not an issue. And it now serves as an access cover
Inner wings have been waxoyled with clear waxoyl, heated and blown into seams. New battery tray (genuine) installed and area under battery tray cleaned and waxoyled as well (no rust at all, I have pics from when I did it somewhere). The old tray was fine, just had surface rust! New battery installed now.
Clean engine bay, new belts and idler fitted recently (genuine parts).
Front arch.
Mixed lighting and you can see the colour match on front wing and door mirror isn't perfect, in daylight it's very good. Most of the car is evenly faded and still bright and impressive when polished.
Rear arches are good on both sides. Original factory underseal and paint under arches, when they're clean.
Worst bit - the front wheelarches, painted three years ago - surface imperfections and overspray. It wasn't an expensive, heavy prep job and it looks fine unless you view it close up, but it's preserved partly because I won't drive the car on salted roads.
Mileage and so forth. The dash has a sign for speed Limiter, but that is not fitted to this model, apparently this is correct and normal. It's not just a matter of swapping stalks, otherwise I'd have done it!
MP3/CD/USB/iPod player.
Two keys, two immobiliser tags - red and black.
So, the car for sale - it's a 1998 Mercedes SLK, 2.3 four cylinder 16v engine with a supercharger for a bit under 200bhp. Five speed automatic gearbox. Folding hardtop, leather seats, aircon (haven't had that charged so not sure how well it'll work, but has bubbles and compressor kicks in), usual things.
Okay, I'll make an effort to sell it, even if I don't want to.
The SLK is definitely a classic in waiting. It will, it 30 years, be as highly regarded as the original 190SL. The design harks back to that model, the same wheelbase, the same humps in the bonnet, the same 2 seater, focused behaviour. Unlike an MX5, it's comfortable, refined and handles well as long as you have confidence in the less talkative chassis. It does 30mpg with the roof down at high motorway speeds, increasing to 36ish if you're more sensible. If you want to get somewhere in a hurry, this is more economical than a 1.6 MX5 in my experience!
The boot, if you don't want to put the roof down, is HUGE. But I've done a weekend away all packed up and had the roof down.
My price is strong. It's not overly negotiable. I believe the car is worth every penny, even with the need to sort the wing out properly (I intended to put two new ones on this winter, at £230 each unless I found excellent, pristine secondhand ones). This car is great, you don't think of it as being two generations old.
Good bits: It's really solid underneath, it looks great in yellow, I don't like things being allowed to deteriorate so it's looked after properly. I've had it for 3 1/2 years and don't want to sell it, it's been reliable and fun. Doors and rear arches, bootlid are all good, original and very clean.
It's had many small new bits in my ownership (last 5,000 miles, essentially), nearly all genuine Mercedes parts:
The locks ALL work, even the boot lock.
With the exception of the cam sensor (OEM), I've always gone for genuine parts. it's even had a new battery tray as the old one had a few bits of surface rust. Inner wings and appropriate areas have been done with clear waxoyl, aside from the bolt-on front wings the car looks to be rust free. I rarely drive it in the wet (actively avoid doing so, but sometimes weather changes!), and it's garaged. It'll have a coolant flush & change with new thermostat soon.
Brakes fully serviced, EBC USR and Yellowstuff, new fluid.
New genuine rear shock absorbers (March 2014), sorting out fronts.
The wind stop is present. It's also had new boot struts and a rebuilt ECU box fan.
Wheels are original, manky - rear tyres are very good, front tyres aren't. It's got Avons on the back, new fronts to match were £51 each last time I checked.
Spare wheel with cover for full-size wheel, bolts for steel and alloys, toolkit all present. No damp near/in PSE and foam in boot.
Bad bits: The nearside front wing has less than awesome paint, usual Mercedes rust beginning on the front wings but nothing like as bad as most S-reg CLK/SLK/W202/W210s I've seen.
Very minor surface marks on the rear part of the roof (forgot to picture, some brown specks/pitting on lower left corner, a little line of them. Easy to miss).
One door trim needs regluing I think, you don't notice it normally but the arm rest is detached.
Some marks on the interior, needs doing with vynide paint.
Reversing lights not working - it needs the selector stripping and contacts adjusting, I've had a serious case of CBA on that particular job.
Possible bit of rattle from the heatshield or exhaust, it's hard to tell.
Other bits:
There's an iPod-friendly CD player in it which also has a USB port and 8GB Mini-USB thing. It has two keys, manuals, folder with history and a nice keyring.
PX interesting things, open minded really. Classic/retro preferred, American metal also good.
