And what a cracking colour too. Over here you could actually see old J cars dissolving in the rain. You are very lucky. If I didn't have so much self control I'd be pinned under the table right now!

The paint is not particularly amazing and probably needs a bit of a refresh, but it's resale red, so all is well. Has a little bit of rust in the doors, and a bit near the back window that will need looking at, but she is remarkably solid underneath. Arches and sills are pretty much perfect. I would like to be asleep right now but apparently I need to think of all the things to do to her, right now. Thanks brain. First things first will be fluids, as some are a little low, and then I'll probably soak the entire underside in used ATF as that's the standard rust prevention system down the shed. Seems to do all the 4WDs fine. Might hold off on that until I've determined whether or not she leaks, but couldn't spot any where she was parked up. I'm already having thoughts about steels and flares and maybe a little ducktail... D:

I think I saw you in SCA last week if you were helping some old bird fit wipers to her Rav4. Didn't say anything because that's a wee bit stalkerish.

Absolutely always introduce yourself to people you only know through internet forums using their username. It's fun and a great way to get strangers to think you're some sort of loonybin when the person you accost isn't who you think they are after all.

I did a thing! It wasn't much of a thing, but I still did it! I spent an hour or so grinding down some welds and cleaning up bits of the previous patches, then I did this. First I had to fill and redrill three holes on the underside at the front as they were too far from the flange of the outer sill rail. Then I failed to notice that the three at the front on the inside didn't line up either! But by that point I had already plug welded most of it together, haha. So I will drill and fill some new holes next time. They're a bit ugly, but penetration seems fine. Just mooorrre grinding. I didn't feel like welding upside down at this point to join that bit in the middle, nor did I feel like more grinding, so I packed up a little early so I had daylight to try my wheel on the Cressida. Which was a fail. But, progress of sorts! Hopefully I can get some more done on the Minor over the weekend, as I don't have much planned apart from Saturday morning. Cheers, Matt

So... it's been almost a year since I touched the Minor, or even looked at it more than glancing at it as I went by. It has looked like this for a while. However, the not very keen eyed amongst you will probably still notice the grinder on the floor. That is because yesterday evening I went and fixed this bit. Which you can barely see, but I drilled some new holes, and then plug welded and filled in the other holes. And then ground it all back along the length of the patch. And cut it so it's a relatively even flange all the way along. And then promptly didn't take any photos of it! Jono filled a hole in the firewall. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has trouble getting this welder going right, as well as having to deal with thin steel. As you can see, it's a bit thin in the bottom still, but it held up to the wirewheel. He also filled the other hole. And then we ground all that back. And welded up most of the upside down seam on the sill patch. The rest we will get when the car is the other way over. This all took me a fair few hours, getting back in to the swing of things, and the grinding took forevvvveerrr. I think the grinding media of my discs are getting clogged somehow as they're no way near as effective as they should be, and seem to get covered in some gunk. It's odd. Might swap to a different brand perhaps, as the current one is getting a bit small now anyway. So, a little progress. But it's a start. I need to be cheap for a few months so I'll try and spend my time doing work on the Minor instead of going out. Cheers, Matt

Great to see it isn't forgotten. Grinding always time consuming.

This is the only one you kept of the herd of them you collected, isn't it? It's been that long I can't remember.

I still have the other four. They are slowly rotting in to the ground. I will salvage what I can from them and weigh in the rest when this one is on the road.

I have some grinding disks that will last forever as they don't actually seem to grind anything off. Serves me right for being tight and buying Silverline stuff

Every now and then you get Silverline stuff that's brilliant though. Totally unexpectedly too, because you're always expecting mediocrity from them.

Good to see this back up my reading list! Interesting use of 'welding' to fill the hole in the bulkhead. I glued on a piece of plastic milk bottle over the hole in mine (just to keep the water out). Must go back and fix that properly...

Are you planning to do anything with this Moggy or is the Cressida getting all your love?

The minor has been put in the sin bin. It's currently outside the workshop gaining weeds. I barely have time to do what I need to get the Cressida one colour again, nevermind weld up the minor. I have however sold off the other four. As well as dad's minivan and one of his minis. One mini left. I'd still like to get the minor on the road but it'll be pretty far down the track at this point..

Best give it some preservation or it will be back to square one - you did a sh!t load of work on her.

Yeah, next time I'm down there I might organise the underbody spray kit and coat the whole thing in transmission oil again. Bit hard to get at the underside though.. Although, I guess I could probably get most of it through the big hole in the middle..
