Good luck with the house, as for the brakes i cant remember you did get some fluid i it before? If so i would have thort theres not alot of air in it it so it should be fine.

This morning, five months late, I braved the LTO to register the '38 for 2017. Obviously I couldn't do it earlier 'cos the brakes were in bits, then we moved and things were a bit fraught. Anyway, things have settled down a bit so there was a window of opportunity, as they say.

Anyway, they've moved from their original site to behind the dreaded Manila Central Post Office, which actually makes it more convenient from Tondo. Arriving at 07:05, a little guy shambles over and says, "Hey, I know you. You gave me a San Mig at the last Tondo festival." Indeed I had and that was 25peso well spent.

I gave him my documents and, by the time I'd had my exhaust analysed, he'd sorted out the compulsory 3rd party insurance you are obliged to buy, and filled out the form for the test I didn't have, and that was that. Easy peasy.

Walked into the office, threw my docs in Window 10 and had just sat down when I was called to the cashier, paid seventy quid (including the 20 penalty for late registration), was sent straight to the sticker window and, for only the second time in five registrations, got a STICKER! Get in there my son!

Was out before 8.

So anyway a complete success, although I was a bit cagey about the exhaust testing as apart from two trips to Tondo (one today) she's been stood for the best part of six months and only been run up, but I needn't have worried. There was a guy with a 1.6 Toyota Corolla on at the same time as me and I was well under half his emissions on all counts. His passed as well by the way!

Another year trouble free motoring, Sir.

Oh, and I've finally tracked down 4 litres of DOT 4 brake fluid. Couldn't get any more, I'll see if that'll do. Delivered tomorrow, so I'll be roping my Little Bleeder in for some nifty Filipina footwork.

Sticker is good news on many fronts.

So having done the brake overhaul, that pretty much concludes the mechanical side of things, the bodywork is fine (apart from the bonnet needs a damn good mop to get all the Tondo graffiti scratches out of it, and although I'd like to stick a slightly hotter cam in there, it's a want rather than a need.

Thought's therefore are turning to the interior. Ideally, I'd just ship a full new one out but realistically, that's not a viable option and the rear seats are perfect anyway. I've found somewhere that can repair and recover seats (mine has sagged and the leather cracked) and like their work, so that's okay. The other issue are the interior plastics. Stuff like door runners aren't hard to source but then we come to the biggy.



I generally like the interior, it's a comfortable and luxurious place to be, but I've always had one bugbear, the dashboard. For the sort of motor it was when marketed new, the dash has to be one of the most insipid pieces of design known to man. It's bland, uninteresting and, in the case of mine, sags like the mouth of a toothless crone. In addition, the binnacle surround is that delicate that each bump in the road sees a new bit crack or fall off.

I got to thinking. Again, a new dash would cost a fortune in shipping and, to be honest I'd be back where I started, with bland and uninteresting, so why not play with the idea of a new design. Obviously I'd want it to look all of a piece so I'll be trying to find someone that can fabricate something, preferably in ally to replace the whole mass of black plastic that's there at the moment. The centre console would probably stay as I have no argument with that. It's good and functional.

There were a couple of old threads on dashboards but many of the picture links don't work any more, so any ideas?

I'll probably need to use the existing instruments as they tie into the BECM but I'd like to add some extra like oil temp and pressure, maybe gearbox temp as well (temperature of stuff is a continuing source of interest here!) and can probably source some that wouldn't look out of place with the original.

Just fancy something completely different, so go on, all ideas welcome - except digital!

On mine, all the screen vents stand around 3/4" proud and the binnacle surround is pretty much non-existent.

Aren't vehicles ungrateful things?

After all I've lavished upon it, after the ten hours the other day spent cutting and polishing the bonnet, it's decided to spit out its camshaft position sensor.

Thing is, it'll run without the CPS using other information, unless the battery goes flat. Guess what?
