Sorry, thought I'd explained it, somewhere! In a failed attempt to control traffic congestion, they introduced this a few years back and means vehicles with plates ending 0 or 1 can't drive on a Monday, 2 & 3 on a Tuesday, etc. Bewilderingly, Taxis are included as well. And why does it fail? Well, for those that can't afford a car, it doesn't matter and those that can, have two. Driver education would be the best money they could spend on reducing queues. They are, without doubt, their own worst enemy.

How are you expected to get to work on a coded day then if you don't have another car. Seems it would defeat the purpose some what! Now you are imagining that any decisions made use the "Cause and Effect" principle. They don't. They use the "It seemed like a good idea at the time but we didn't expect that to happen" method of legislation. Including public transport probably wasn't the best idea anyone ever had, but we can't lose face and reverse anything. Oh, no. As to how you get to work? "Well that's your problem Mr Citizen, we only make the laws which, strangely, we're excluded from".

So, where are we? Well, here for a start... The new home, for now, as it's looking like we're on the move again soon. Brake fluid? A guy offered to source me 6 litres of DOT4 and proudly arrived with 6 litres of DOT3. Sent him back saying that DOT3 was no good so, twenty minutes later he returned...with the 6 litres of DOT3 again! Perhaps I'd changed my mind? So no, not found any yet. The hunt continues. Battery. You'll remember that I was taking the battery round to a little man for him to hook it up to his venerable antique charger. Well, on arrival at Tondo, I was having a hunt for something when what do I spy? Yes, a battery charger I'd bought two years ago. However, it was in my actual possession for such a short time before Madam "souveneered" it, I'd forgotten about it completely. Just having a look at rental properties at the moment and my beady little eyes have fallen on one house up Quezon way. Yes, it's got loads of bedrooms and all that other stuff but what caught my eye was secure parking for 5, yes 5 cars! Looks promising. Oh, and I asked this question on another forum but didn't really get a definite response. Anything stopping me bleeding the brakes (aside from no fluid) where it parked now, on that angle? First thoughts were no, but I can't really think why not. We're still pushing fluid and air, no matter what.

it'll be fine bleeding on a slope, just bear in mind when the fluid level gets low the ports will be exposed much quicker than when on level ground.

Who says drinking's not good for you? This morning, five months late, I braved the LTO to register the '38 for 2017. Obviously I couldn't do it earlier 'cos the brakes were in bits, then we moved and things were a bit fraught. Anyway, things have settled down a bit so there was a window of opportunity, as they say. Anyway, they've moved from their original site to behind the dreaded Manila Central Post Office, which actually makes it more convenient from Tondo. Arriving at 07:05, a little guy shambles over and says, "Hey, I know you. You gave me a San Mig at the last Tondo festival." Indeed I had and that was 25peso well spent. I gave him my documents and, by the time I'd had my exhaust analysed, he'd sorted out the compulsory 3rd party insurance you are obliged to buy, and filled out the form for the test I didn't have, and that was that. Easy peasy. Walked into the office, threw my docs in Window 10 and had just sat down when I was called to the cashier, paid seventy quid (including the 20 penalty for late registration), was sent straight to the sticker window and, for only the second time in five registrations, got a STICKER! Get in there my son! Was out before 8. This is what all the fuss is about... on a handy fag packet for size comparison. Little isn't it? So anyway a complete success, although I was a bit cagey about the exhaust testing as apart from two trips to Tondo (one today) she's been stood for the best part of six months and only been run up, but I needn't have worried. There was a guy with a 1.6 Toyota Corolla on at the same time as me and I was well under half his emissions on all counts. His passed as well by the way! Another year trouble free motoring, Sir. Oh, and I've finally tracked down 4 litres of DOT 4 brake fluid. Couldn't get any more, I'll see if that'll do. Delivered tomorrow, so I'll be roping my Little Bleeder in for some nifty Filipina footwork.

Thanks for these. 'twas my thought also after consideration. Yes, they've been bled once but I ran out of fluid before I was 100% happy, so a re-bleed will be done.

Is brake fluid hard to get? From some of the stories George tells I expect they normally just take a pi$$ in the master cylinder. 'Bout the right colour... You know I've just spent literally seconds wondering if 'bout should have a capital B since I dropped the capital A... Well these things are important!

Sticker is good news on many fronts. Don't know whether to put it in the windscreen or frame it. Is brake fluid hard to get? From some of the stories George tells I expect they normally just take a pi$$ in the master cylinder. 'Bout the right colour... I could drown in DOT 3 fluid. It's everywhere and cheap. The impression seems to be that DOT 4 is only for "exotic" vehicles and when I tell them it's for a 22 year old Range Rover, they all nod sagely as if I've just proved their theory for them. Weird. And James, I expect you're not far out, certainly for the Jeepney drivers. They're like an incontinent old dog and pi$$ everywhere indiscriminately anyway, don't see why the master cylinder should miss out! 25 peso's for an MOT pass, buy him another beer soon! Well yes and no. There is an "MoT test" of sorts, but I only know of one testing station which does them and funnily enough it's very quiet. None of the other LTO depots have any facilities apart from emission testing, but they still fill out a big form ticking all the boxes saying my brakes are up to snuff, lights work and nowt's falling off underneath having looked at absolutely nothing. In reality, they take a pencil rubbing, literally, of the engine and chassis number and that's that. No it was worthwhile because a) he put me in front of everyone else and b) got the insurance documents kicked off which left me only having to amble in a pay for them. Probably saved me an hour or so? I dropped him another hundred for speeding me along. Me and Edmund are going to be bestest mates every January from now on.

So having done the brake overhaul, that pretty much concludes the mechanical side of things, the bodywork is fine (apart from the bonnet needs a damn good mop to get all the Tondo graffiti scratches out of it, and although I'd like to stick a slightly hotter cam in there, it's a want rather than a need. Thought's therefore are turning to the interior. Ideally, I'd just ship a full new one out but realistically, that's not a viable option and the rear seats are perfect anyway. I've found somewhere that can repair and recover seats (mine has sagged and the leather cracked) and like their work, so that's okay. The other issue are the interior plastics. Stuff like door runners aren't hard to source but then we come to the biggy. I generally like the interior, it's a comfortable and luxurious place to be, but I've always had one bugbear, the dashboard. For the sort of motor it was when marketed new, the dash has to be one of the most insipid pieces of design known to man. It's bland, uninteresting and, in the case of mine, sags like the mouth of a toothless crone. In addition, the binnacle surround is that delicate that each bump in the road sees a new bit crack or fall off. I got to thinking. Again, a new dash would cost a fortune in shipping and, to be honest I'd be back where I started, with bland and uninteresting, so why not play with the idea of a new design. Obviously I'd want it to look all of a piece so I'll be trying to find someone that can fabricate something, preferably in ally to replace the whole mass of black plastic that's there at the moment. The centre console would probably stay as I have no argument with that. It's good and functional. There were a couple of old threads on dashboards but many of the picture links don't work any more, so any ideas? I'll probably need to use the existing instruments as they tie into the BECM but I'd like to add some extra like oil temp and pressure, maybe gearbox temp as well (temperature of stuff is a continuing source of interest here!) and can probably source some that wouldn't look out of place with the original. Just fancy something completely different, so go on, all ideas welcome - except digital!

Your dashtop is in better shape than mine, literally! Mine doesn't follow the contour of the instrument binnacle anymore and the LH dash vent plastic has lifted a little at the outboard end. Not that I'm bothered. To be honest I quite like the standard interior.
I like your screen install, I'm looking at replacing my head unit with a 7" android screen unit but am aware that space is tight behind there. Whilst in there I was thinking of raising the HEVAC controls and putting an oddments tray in underneath.

Sorry, I didn't mention that's not mine. If it was, I'd leave well alone.
On mine, all the screen vents stand around 3/4" proud and the binnacle surround is pretty much non-existent.

I'm sure it should be easier than this!
So, a couple of weeks ago a sidecar behind me forgot to brake. This exacerbated the crack in the bumper caused by the last one but also damaged the inner LHS light unit. Of course, "No money".
I jumped onto OLX, the well known selling site in the Philippines and sho nuff, there's a guy selling a full set of lenses for a little over GBP100. Way cheaper than ordering from the UK and I'd have a set of spares.
On the 18 I SMS to ask if he still has them and immediately receive a positive response. I fire one straight back asking his whereabouts and if he was around over the coming weekend. Silence.
This morning I get an SMS, "ok txt me Lang if u wnt lights"
Thought I'd already done that! š

Aren't vehicles ungrateful things?
After all I've lavished upon it, after the ten hours the other day spent cutting and polishing the bonnet, it's decided to spit out its camshaft position sensor.
Thing is, it'll run without the CPS using other information, unless the battery goes flat. Guess what?
Bloody thing!

Loath to part with money because, of course, Iād far rather give it all to Malate Catholic School, I decided to have a good gander this morning. Took the sensor out (using my proctologist's handset) because that was the only way I could get any purchase on a very stuck plug. Eventually parted it and gave everything a good blast with contact cleaner. Reassemble and away she went. Fault cleared and happy Range Rover.
