Lovely looking cars, the e36! Yours is a beauty. R-plate will be a 1.9 M44 I assume?
Welcome to RR.

thats it 1.9 twin cam 140bhp, nice smooth engine, and has already done 193k but still feels tight. Lively engine with willing performance. This car I'm hoping will be retro cheap transport. Bought off ebay for £1200. I'm very proud of it.

We do love moderns here as well as retros (obviously lol). Looks awesome. I actually prefer the E36 over E30, especially in 4 door form. If I could have got insured, I'd be rolling in one instead of my Mk2. Hope you enjoy it here mate, its a great place to be.

thanks mate, It does look like it cost more than I paid, but it's basically in banger money category. Think most people would be afried to pay much more due to high miles, but you can buy those m44 lumps off ebay with only 78k for about £200. Its the condition of the car itself thats more important, bodywork and paint is mint. All the grubby and boring bits can be bought for pocket money off euro parts. The only serious problem I may have with this car is that it may well get nicked and set on fire. Not having much in the way of anti theft systems. I'm sure its an easy car to steal. Here is the m44 1.9 twin cam motor, timing chain no cam belt. lots of space to work in, grubby and honest just how I like my engines. I'm also interested in the m44 engine as a newer engine donar, to put into my e28 518i.

Very tempted by one of these since everyone scared me off the E36 M3! These look like a much more sensible option. Bloody good looking cars as well, they're ageing well. I want one for daily duties and gradual track slag transformation. Have some inspiration;

yes I agree with you, the e36 coupe is aging well, I think it looks better than the newer 3 series coupe's that have come after it, or perhaps I just like my cars to have had time to mature lol. I like those m3 wingmirrors, I may have to ebay myself some. My heart though is with my e28, living the 80s dream.

Very tempted by one of these since everyone scared me off the E36 M3! Why? Fantastic cars for the money! I know of an m3 that's had the same owner for 16 years and has had 0 problems!

I love that car!
Our daily is an E36, and a potential hike in my trip to work is making me consider selling the E28 535i for a tds. Everyone is telling me an Audi A4tdi is the sensible one to go for, but I reckon the E36 (in coupe, saloon or touring form) is such a beautiful thing. It's a shame the "dolphin shape" description didn't take off like "sharknose" did.
Looks ace in that colour too!

Very nice. As has been said E36's really have aged very well. I can't stop looking at them recently. Too many projects right now though.

thanks guys, I'm hoping at 193k miles, the water pump will have been replaced fro a metel one. I had mine done about six weeks ago, at 91000 miles, it started rattling a bit when the engine was warm. Got a metal one from Euro Car Parts and a local independent specialist fitted it, cost me £60 all in. Drove it 1000 miles to Bavaria the next day, no problems!

Really like that! Looks so fresh! My last two have been a 318is Coupe and a 328 Coupe, loved them both to bits, I'll have a 323 Sport Tourer when funds allow
For what it's worth, my understanding is the M42B18 is 140bhp, but the later M44B19 is 150bhp.

Looks like you've bought a good one if it still looks the same same. I miss driving mine, and watching the rusty arches get worse!

Well there is rust on the now as well, arches and bonnet, and a bit on the back. But I'm going to get that all fixed. I plan to keep it, replace broken and old parts with brand new parts, give it a new lease on life! Just having the starter replaced atm.
