Planning to fit bike carbs to my mk1 cortina very soon and the only thing thats stumped me a little is the vacuum advance. I understand that all the carbs would have to be linked for it to work, would it have any ill effects not using it, except for economy? Can I use my vacuum advance dizzy and just not connect the vac advance up, or do I need a dizzy without a vacuum advance (maybe with mechanical advance)? Cheers

the carbs i had had vac take offs on them, but you can put them in the inlet pipes themselves
i initially ran them just T'd into each other and connected to the brake servo and dizzy, worked perfectly fine and didnt really give any fueling issues, i eventually made a small vac pot to put all the hoses into and then 2 exits for the brake servo and dizzy, don't think i have pics, was basically a bit of 1" id pipe with 4 6mm tubes in a line along the rounded edge then one end of the pot an 8mm take off for the servo n on the other end a 6mm take off for the dizzy, worked perfectly

That sounds ideal! The mk1 has no servo so thats not an issue, do you reckon I can just daisy chain all the manifold pipes with small diameter pipe between them and take the vac advance off the first one?

i am not sure, i guess it would be similar to the T-d together option, but tbh i would just do individual pipes to a pot (or Ts for now til you can sort a pot), it will give a more even vacuum curve i think
though someone else may be able to advise for or against

my hunter GLS (weber 40's) simply had a take off on one of the cylinders.. no linking.. never had any running issues with it. although I do know the proper dizzy for a H120 has no vacmun unit on it so it is obviously an option to do away with it altogether

No good IMHO daisy chaining them as this can cause an imbalance and or idle/running issues get two washer jet tee,s and join the 4 together with one single take off in the middle If that makes sense lol and keep all pipe work uniform lengths if possible and as short as possible also

The noise the carbs make is quite addictive don't expect your fuel to last long coz mine doesn't lol
