Well, I appear to be having a lucky streak with Halfords *touches wood*.
Last week I went to get a can of grey primer and matt black for my GCSE project. They had the damaged stuff out, £1 each and right in the centre of the table was a can of grey primer and a can of matt black both missing nozzles.
I also thought about buying a 5l bottle of oil and an oil filter but for some reason decided against it. Went in today... 30% off all engine oil so I bagged a 5l bottle of 10W40 semi-synth for £14!
I will now visit halfords at least 3 times a week to check what's on offer ;D

Wahey - is the oil promo nationwide I wonder? I have also mysteriously been putting off my oil change for no real reason.

I still recall the time I was offered some colossal hose when I asked where the 8mm fuel line was. ;D

It used to be £10 for a 5l at my local motorfactors but it's now up to £16 for 4l!
Mad.
Asked for a price on a wheel bearing for the Polo there a couple of weeks ago, and the guy replied with 'is that a Golf?'
Grr

I work for Halfords, and have to stick up for them to a degree. Problem is thewre is no sort of training at all, and a lot of the people who are employed don't know anything about their department. So if you don't already know something about cars, then you'll only learn by either making mistakes or by watching others. I often end up going over to parts when they aren't sure how to answer a question. Not good I agree, but that's the way it is!

^ agreed dude, used to work in one myself, albeit the best performing one in NI, and usually all ireland. usually you will get them not knowing a thing, luckily everyonethat worked in ours either had 10+ years in the trade and/or at least 1 modified car and/or a hobby relating to the department they were in. everyone left our place with the right advice.
and thinking about it, theres not a singles person i worked with there who didnt have a car or bike related speciality...

I'll go in, and if what I want is on the shelf then great. If not, I'll go across the road to the slightly more expensive, but immensely better-read motor factors.
Halfords professional tools are still brilliant though!

i too work for halfords and agree with negativecreep. It all depends on who serves you. I went for a job on parts but got put up on the Bikehut. Admittidly i know a bit about bikes but all of what i know now is from what i have picked up along the way. I occasionally work down on parts and its amazing how stressy the customers get when you don't stock a specific part for thier car. The only training i got was on how to build bikes to a certain standard, none on parts or anything, the only reason i can sell stuff downstairs is because i have asked about the other departmenst and have wanted to learn. I do hereby apologise however for some of the right old NUMPTIES that i work with. To be honest it depends on who serves you. we have some blokes that can rattle part numbers off the top of thier heads and we have some people that dribble. luck of the draw i suppose

24th March... Halfords 1 Pog 0 Grrr. I nearly nearly twatted the little cnut in there today. I wanted a new handle for my halfords trolley jack as I lost mine. Asked the twunt on the counter. His answer? No. Just like that. Aren't you going to check that with anyone? Like the manager?? No he says. Can't help you unless you buy another one. utter utter w*nker. I had to buy one too as I can't f*ck about waiting a week for one off machine mart. And now it's raining anyway.... What a waste of chops.

I cant stand the place the one in Stafford is just a joke, went in once to buy some waxoyl as they had it on offer and some little chav wibblepoo started his sales patter and attempted to sell me a set of alloys even after I explained that my car has 3 stud wheels.
The fact its so bad is even worse when you consider that a short walk away (across the road for two of them) you have Motorworld, Potteries Motor Factors and Uttoxeter Motor Components, all of which are excellent!
