So this week I got the chance to do something most 25 year olds don't... hire a V8 soft top Ford Mustang! I got the car for two days in Nashville which was very useful as I have friends out there and missed a lot of opportunities to visit places and get to gigs the last time I was here. It had a crazy fast turn of speed once the gear box sorted its self out... managed to do some ridiculous things in it before taking back to the airport drop off, all to a soundtrack of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, so very happy. I'm here for another 2 weeks playing Guitar for Billy Bragg across the USA, we end in San Francisco so you can guess what I'm thinking of doing again for my day off... There couldn't be anything further from my mk3 1.1 Escort other than the build quality was very Ford... not complaining at all though. Theres a lot of nice cars out here... me and our bass player spotted a nice classic car garage in Hendersonville, Nashville. Here are a few pics of the car and that place: In a hipster coffee joint downtown Nashville... only somewhere like that would have classic Bikes in a coffee shop. me quite happy after an in store show would have much ratherd this! it was a 6 Cylinder and $7000 looks like this may have been done on test drive with the dealers plates on it still. home for the next 2 weeks Also noticed this at the pick up point... Next adventure

Amazing stuff. I drove all over the west coast three years ago, it's my favourite place in the world. We also had a Ford 302 V8. Shame it was in a bloody great big motorhome. We drove on some totally stunning roads but all the time with the smell of brakes and white-knuckle, understeer moments.
If you hire a car in San Fran go north, straight over the bridge into Marin County and check out the coastal highway. You'll remember it forever.
And then put the pics up here!

Actually yeah good call. We headed south into San Fran and I just remember the closer we got, the more insane the road was. Santa Cruz is awesome. We slept in a line of RV's outside the surf museum. Got a pic of it somewhere EDIT: Found it! We were in the F-150 with the bikes on the back

It's when you see signs like below that you know you're on a good road, even in a rental Miata/MX-5/Eunos, (that image came from google search but i do have a photo of a sign that says Hills Curves next 74 miles)

If you're in SF have a quick drive on 17 Mile Drive (think that's what it was called - out past the Presidio and the US Naval Cemetery) - nice road with great views. How cool is your life? Not that I'm jealous (actually I am!) but I'm a huge Billy Bragg and Mustang fan - that white one looked great value compared to UK prices. Ray's Classics in SF have a very good reputation - they could ship it back to the UK for you! Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Thanks for the nudge! Since the last time i posted on here we finished the USA tour and just finished a 5 week Europe and UK tour. There were a few nice cars when we reached the west coast but not too much in Europe that you havnt seen already. i'm planning on going back to Nashville in February so maybe some more querky car pics and stupid rental cars then, were in Australia in March so will be sure to look out for some unusual stuff there. Here are some photos from the last USA after Nashville and the UK/Europe stuff... back to reality now of dealing with a Ford Escort that might be too much work for me :/ The want for this was unreal... This colourful car is a guitar sales man we went to see. very eccentric guy and this suprisingly has up to date tax on it! he does drive it. Billy made me stand by this one.. i just wanted a pic of the car. i think if i was buying a yank tank it would have to be something like that. I had to take a pic of my cars American Cousin... We had a great couple of gigs in San Francisco. This is a pic from Hardy Sticky Bluegrass in Golden Gate park. the sun was facing us at about 2pm and the stage was burning my feet through my shoes. This was one of the wrong side of the tracks kind of places in Pitsburg USA bus UK bus... don't ask about the colour. not so special but still kind of interesting. A lot of interesting cars in Berlin... a lot of mk2 golfs like this. nice Opel which looks like its still loved. Saab in other news we played some nice venues like the Royal Symphony Hall in Birmingham, a lot of the UK ones were like this... the German ones were more stand up clubs. Its been a great year doing two USA tours, playing the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury and the Europe stuff. all very fun, I feel very lucky. We just need to get some better shirts now. ... and back to this :/ hopefully it'll see the light of day again, if not i'll have to try get another.

Nice pics\cars!
If you hire a car in oz, the falcon xr6 is cheaper than a hyundai getz and make sure you ask for what you want - if you ask for an xr6 they will give you one. Good luck with the rest of the tour!
