hi guys, thought id give you an update. its been a while but ive finaly made some progress, and i couldnt have done it without your help. ive managed to get the flange plate all cut out! next step is to calculate and weld on the pipes, then i will get the face skimmed after that. i would like to be able to move this thread to the modifications section to turn it into a "build thread" but i think i will have to make a proper build thread for the whole car eventually as theres lots i want to do to it. I'm just so slow at doing it... lol thanks for reading

see i thought it would all be smooth sailing now that ive finished the flange plate. but ive just looked into calculating the length of the intake runners and its all got very complicated again. is there any easy way to do it, or is there a good average size? has amyone else done this with a similar setup? thanks!

i may cheat and go to bogg bros lol ha, fair one! ive already spent loads of money on this car so it would have made sense for me to go to the bogg aswell. i think i just wanted the challenge of doing it myself. and afterall, if i succeed i get to say to people "i designed and built my own inlet manifold for this car" and people might think I'm somewhat intelligent

lol thats a thought, to be honest doing it yourself is better, anyone can buy one but building one,

As long as possible within reason then tune with trumpet lengths, there are some quite in depth calculations you can do based on capacity, cam duration, rpm.
You want a nice smooth curve and large radius to any bend required.

thanks mate, ive had a play about with some of those online calculation charts, and ive studied other peoples buid threads, and i think about 10cm is a good average to make the pipes. i will try and make them so there is an adjustable amount in and out with the couplings. i don't think there is any way for me to bend the pipes accurately myself, so i think i will have to cut an angle into them.

I'm thinking about just the size of the runners, this is the chart i used to calculate it. www.exx.se/techinfo/runners/runners.htmlalthough ive just seen that it states "measured from the valve seat to funnel" but I'm not really sure what it means by "funnel". it might mean trumpet?

yep, can't think of anything else it would be!

that's giving me a measurement 100mm longer or 150mm shorter than my current setup

thats strange, how come it gives two measurements? surely they would create two totally different running experiences? do you think it isnt that accurate then?

Hello again! Its been a while since ive posted about this topic, but ive been getting well underway with it, ive finished the manifold and it doesnt even leak or anything:) Now I could do with some help again please. Basically when I first put it all together I have had the engine running for a short while with this setup and it seemed ok. Since then I have tried starting it and it isnt even trying. Tbh I don't think I know enough about bike carbs. As you can see I have plumbed the fuel line into the bottom two pipes, this is only because thats how I thought it should be, And it did work like this at first. When it wouldnt start I took the carbs off and turned them upside down and fuel poured out of one of the top pipes, does this mean anything to anyone? Could there be a split diaphram or something? Do I have the fuel line in the right place? Can anyone tell me which pipes actually do what? i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb263/mk1joe/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-07-12140649_zpsa3f2687e.jpgThanks for the help guys, your the best!

part of the problem might be that you are using hoses so the carbs will move about
