Following on from my emergency roadside fix thread Here I just wondered what spares/tools you guys carry with you all the time, in case of an emergency? Normally, I've always got a fan belt, power steering belt, oil, coolant/water, tape, zip ties and a Haynes for the wiring diagrams. Although I'm now going to start carrying a length of wire and some fuses....Oh and a fire extinguisher! On longer journies I'll often carry my 'portable' tool box with spanners, sockets, hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, mole grips and a multi meter....(and probably a few other random bits) Oh and a trolley jack What about you?

gaffa tape and my AA card. Familiar! ;D it depends what you drive i reckon, but some basic tools, gaffa tape and AA, not very much really. might add a little, now i know a little more. BTW careful with stripey jumpered, thread snoopers though dudes.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

I also carry an AA/RAC card, but to be fair, I'd rather be able to fix it enough to get me home rather than sit there for an hour wishing i was on my way home, whilst waiting for the dude to come

Spare wheel, jack and a brace - not the OEM one but a decent 'spider' one. Been caught out too many times with a crappy stock one (once on the side of the M1), and equally been caught out too many times with a 17mm brace and 19mm nuts or vice-versa!
Often have more depending on whether I've been working on the car, as I tend to use the boot as a overnight storage area so people at work are well impressed when I have an oil filter wench, or spark plug socket, or exhaust putty etc just when they need it. However eventually it annoys me by rolling around in the boot and I empty it.

I er, carry every tool and spare that I own!! Lol, It's not really for roadside repairs though, its more becuase, being at uni I don't have a shed or garage or anything like that. So stuff like that has to stay in the car. I also only generally have one of everything, so when I come home from uni, I have to make sure I have everything in case I want to do any work on it.

nothing. So that today when I need to change a fuse at the roadside I have the fuse, but not a 10mm spanner to get the side panel off! I need to get one of those nifty little tool rolls in with some spanners in. I should get breakdown cover too ... but I haven't. I broke down on the A19 fly over once - that was freaky. I did buy tickets to The Who though...

If you take nothing else, make sure you have kit that will help YOU. Screw the car.
