I can just imagine and your right it is was a good triumph car. Same as the Montego and Maestro being badged as MG, they where MGs and very underrated cars at that.

I agree on the mk1 Polo. I'll add the mk1 Derby, mk1 Passat, mk1 Scirocco, mk1 Jetta. All overshadowed by the ubiquitous mk1 Golf. Also, any Audi from the '70s, you just don't see them anywhere any more, even at classic car shows. I'm glad to say that I've owned almost all of the above with the exception of the mk1 Scirocco. I tend towards the underdogs As for the mk1 Scirocco my friends dad has one and it won the best original at Jimmys farm dub show this year, he's had 2 Scirooco's in the last few years a mk2 then a mk1, but maybe the mk 2 is overlooked too?Saw one in a scrapyard looked pretty nice except being overgrown by nettles, in the same yard Corsair, R5, pug 203, allegro and maxi.R5 and last two overlooked are the other two just rarities? and what about R21/R21 turbos? friend's going to try buy local one been sat up for a good few years.

The 280ce had 180bhp and weighed 1400kgs so was pretty fast for its age and good looking too, why not more love?

I'm not so sure with standard cars, takes something very special to make a car enjoyable at factory specs. Though most 60's and 70's cars were an event to drive and are now, something the modern car has lost.
But modified - the 3.7 litre Mustang V6 engine bolts straight into a '96 Mondeo V^. Same for the Cougar, not great as standard but when people are talking about it in ten years time they'll be saying how the 3.5L Lincoln engine bolts straight in place of our measly 2.5. But whilst parts are still about, you could do it now.

I'm putting another vote in for the TR7. Derided for years, more often than not by people who hadn't even seen one in the metal let alone riven one. Not that i have ever driven or even sat in one.

Saab 9000. Unbelievably good/ignored car. Get an Aero and you have the best seats ever fitted! Fast, practical, bullet proof mechanics meaning mental mileages easily achieved, brilliant build quality........I could go on....... Here is my 1996 Aero - 216,000 on the clock and with 265BHP on tap I can still outrun most things whilst returning 35mpg on ave.......

Talking of the platform the 9000 use, the Lancia Thema doesnt really seem to have a following.. Got me a cheap turbo 16v one yesterday It must be 8 or 9 years since I last saw the other brother, the Fiat Croma, too, and that was sat looking rather forlorn on the driveway of the house my brother shared. The Alfa 164 and Saab seem to have survived the best out of the four. I was just thinking about this the other day in fact, Tipos and Unos are getting pretty thin on the ground in the UK too. I don't remember the last time I saw a Tipo, which is a shame because as a true child of the '80s and '90s I think they're a fine-looking car. EDIT: I thought I'd have a look on eBay and there's one Tipo and four Unos, all turbos. No cooking model Unos and no Cromas at all.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I just looked through ebay for Uno's myself and the result made me feel a little sick, just 4 years ago I gave away a tidy mk1 Uno and there is a very very similar one on there with 31 bids and reserve not met at £1300! I couldn't sell mine for love nor money and even had trouble giving it away. Might be time to get another one, I loved that car but stupidly at the time wanted something modern and reliable. The replacement lasted 6 months before I got bored of it and sold it for the DAF.

I'd include the non-turbo/EMS Saab 99: My old man had an EMS when I was a kid back in the 80s. I don't recall seeing any back then!

I have turned up to a Triumph meet (mostly TRs and Stags) in my old Acclaim, lots of rolling eyes and tutting as I parked. Its a shame, as IMO its actually the best CAR that Triumph ever made, and that's saying something. It was also the last car that Triumph ever made, or at least put a badge on - it was a 4-door Honda Prelude, and as the Rover 213 effectively replaced it, and Triumph's badge was put in an old shoe box in a draw in head office, you can understand the Triumph fans attitude to a car that represents the killing-off of the marque at a time when it wasn't deemed as profitable to put three different badges on one range of cars. When my mates and i were all around 17 and started driving in the early '90s, i had an Escort3, as did a couple of others, one had a Nova, one an AstraA and Scott had a Triumph Acclaim 1300. That thing was a better car than any of ours! But it was 100% pure Honda. The last Triumph was a Spitfire.

The Acclaim was just a rebadged Honda Accord, wasnt it? Theres an old guy locally who drives (or used to at least) a first gen accord, looks just like an Acclaim

A Ballade is even rarer than an Acclaim.... Wrong though - The afore mentioned Triumph Acclaim as it was badged in Britain, shown here badged as a Honda Civic in it's U.S spec, effectively a 4dr Prelude or vice versa. (The Ballade came later, superceeding the Acclaim/Civic1, and was twinned with the Rover 213). Can't fail to put a couple of my favorite old Hondas up now.. Said coupe.. I also like the later ones up to 1991.. And one of my top three of all time. One day. One day..
