there was a bloke round here used to have what was called a 230Ti. this is when I was like 11years old and didnt no much about cars but its intruiged me to what it actually is.
it was white, C reg, 4 dr, blue trimmy bits, obviously a ford, with the old skool sierra stickers and on the right side the sticker said 230Ti, it had xr4 rear spoiler, front had what looked like an xr4/rs500 grille that looked cool around the headlights and I think it had cossy wheels. I think it had bonnet vents on it too.
guessing it was a 2.3 turbo that might have been some sort of ltd ed as it didnt look very aftermarket from what I remember but I cant find anything specific on it. does anyone know what these were?

They did do a 2.3 4-pot turbo, but AFAIK it was only ever sold in the USA as a Merkur XR4Ti, and was based on the 3-dr XR4i, they did a 5-door Merkur but that was Granada-shaped.
Certainly never did one in the UK though. I'm intrigued now!!

Well, I think in the states they had 2.3 turbo variants of the Pinto, SOHC, maybe it had one of those retrofitted?
There was a Merkur XR4Ti, which was fitted with the above...maybe it was rebaged one of those?
>edit< Dammit, beaten to it ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

So this was an imported Merkur if I'm on the right track? Wonder if its still about, very interesting.
A google brings up what basically looks like our own XR4. Its more interesting if you put this into the image search site:www.kineticmotorsport.com Merkur XR4Ti I WANT!

Had it have been a gennie Merkur it would have been a 3-dr with the same window arrangement as out own early XR4i...the only 5-dr Merkurs were rebadged Granadas. And it would be left hand drive. They did some hi-po 5dr Sierras in South Africa, but I think they had either the old Essex 3-litre v6 or a 302 V8 Austrailia?? New Zealand?? A 1.6L with some badges and plastic addons?? :-)

one of those in a 5 door Mk1 would be way too cool, specially with some period stripes, and RS Kit.

hmm, not sure what the mofo was, pretty certain it was a 4dr and rhd. it didnt have badges, it was more blue vinyl stickers saying 230Ti, last i saw it was about 2years ago. the bloke that owned it walks his dog round here sometimes but hes mighty scarey. i might try ask him about it.

Well, I think in the states they had 2.3 turbo variants of the Pinto, SOHC, maybe it had one of those retrofitted? Ford Myth NO. 57: The SOHC engine fitted to XR4Ti was a turbocharged pinto. False! The engine is called a "Lima" as fitted to american mustangs. As for the Sierra 230ti sounds like the guy might have justed stuck some badges on it?

Sierra - here we go again! He has an illness, it's not his fault.

was just gonna add the pinto in the XR4Ti isnt a pinto its a lima engine, built in brazil and fitted to povo spec mustangs, turbo'd and fitted into the XR and the thunderbird, no interchangeable parts but looks mildly similar.
you sure that 230Ti don't say TT on it, could be a turbo technics conversion, but would be a 220 i think, they came in 3 bhp ratings, 220, 280 and 320 i believe.

Sounds to me like an after market turbo conversion, there were quite a few options about back in the day.
