Hope that I'm not speaking out of turn but prompted by the request for ideas for next year, via Facebook, I was wondering about the viability of a lunchtime ''Soapbox Derby'' down the hill at Prescott?
We all know their are lots of talented fabricators out there and with 12 months to go, I'm sure teams could be formed and some awesome soapbox racers put together. I think it could be great fun and offer an alternative way to make use of the hill, during the lunchbreak.
So is this a possibility?
If it is, would folk be interested in getting involved?

Can we do it on the Saturday possibly? Okay it'll limit it to camping tickets only, but should get a decent turn out anyway. Or is the hill totally off limits until Sunday?

No... because we'd have to shorten the afternoon session by an hour then and it is already too short.
Saturday is out... you are very likely to get run over by the guy that lives at the top of the hill in his Audi R8.

The campsite is a big down hill and a big up hill, plus rougher for more crash hilarity. Why not do it round there, yes more pushing involved but you could factor in driver changes and the like. I would even be willing to make up 1st 2nd and 3rd car tat trophies. Cos I WILL be there. Oh yea baby.

sounds like a cracking idea! car theme, comunity spirit, change of pace... everything a good show needs. I'm suprised you seem to be shunning this idea HW.
the lunchbreak during morning and afternoon session is an hour surely they could be squeezed in there if ran by volounteers.? ie give the marshalls/organiser staff etc a rest while stand ins take over for lunch. would obvioulsy have to be a limit on entrants, and some safety rules etc...
i was going to suggest opening the hill up to people with drift trikes during the lunch hour for a laugh but this is a much better idea.!

I don't want to be peeing on parades but surely insurance for this would be a nightmare. I for one wouldn't want to jeopardise such an event as this if someone was to flip something made of plywood and pram wheels resulting in a nasty injury. unlikely I know but it could happen. Saturday is a bit of a "nothing going on" day but we have the entire campsite for this type of thing. I`d be happy to partake in the helping out of organising/marsheling(ha ha) this on a Saturday. could even do a shorter version for parent/kids version.

Provided this idea is sanctioned i suppose a new thread with rough rules etc should be started

Thanks for telling us what a good show needs, hopefully we can put those into action and make a good show some time. I'm shunning it because we've already thought of it ... in fact we did it 7 years ago at the first Retro Rides badged event ("Retro Rides Show")... of all the promised participants 2 people turned up and one of their carts broke before it got half way down the hill. We spoke of doing it the first year we moved to Prescott too. The idea isn't new to us and we've looked into doing it far more than "hey this is a great idea..." We can't do anything on the hill during lunch break as it needs marshaling. The marshals are having lunch break during the lunch break, it is where it gets its name from. In order to run soap boxes or anything down the hill we also need the barriers configured for it which takes time out of running cars up the hill at our car show. We also use the lunch break to do the awards and encourage people to look around the show a bit more, you know change the pages, keep the theme on cars and encourage some community spirit... those things a good car show would have.

Sorry guys. I didn't want to start a whole 'handbags at dawn' scenario. It was just a thought, nothing more and I totally get the reasons why it's not actually very plausible. I wasn't suggesting the show needed anything else either. It's a cracking event and very well organised.
Now come on guys, group hug!?
