Wolfrace alloys on a original and tidy phase 1? Big face palm. When you haven't seen a picture I can't see how you can comment - I'd reserve judgement till the pics are revealed Very surprising you managed to get a 83k ph1 for less than £1k Me too went looking and it seems they are out there at less than a grand - one of my all time favorite cars I've owned were both 205's and one day when I have some time and space I'll have another just to experience that wonderfull steering feel I too was reserving judgement but finding it hard, they will need to be good as the original ones suit the car really well (one of the best style OEM wheels IMO) Always fancied one of these though, will be interested to see the progress. |

Nice car. Be careful you don't trash it with stuff that companies want you to show, rather than the stuff you actually want on it. Been there and done that.

I have to admit that IMO the 205 was one of the few cars that looked right when it came out of the factory. Saying that, ruining is too strong a word. Many on these on standard suspension (and worn dampers/rear beam bushes) will not handle like a 205 can. I know my car responded very well to a suspension refresh. Regarding different wheels etc. on the car, whilst the 205 looks great in relatively stock form a few on here (LemmingZappa included) have shown what is possible with a bit of vision and thought. At least it is all reversible and in the case of the suspension it can simply be wound up in minutes (maybe not quite so easy on the rear but you can see what I am getting at. It shall be interesting to see how this turns out. Although I reckon you enjoy a bit of controversy Dan . |

OMG!! Someone on Retro Rides dares to modify their car shocker!! Whatever next?
Whilst I do think the '1.9' (as these were always referred to back in the day) is one of the nicest, freshest looking and 'just right' factory produced hot hatches ever, I also think they are prime for some suitable modifying if the owner has the right vision.
Like with any car, it can easily go wrong, but with such an awesome blank canvas, I, for one, cannot wait to see how this car pans out.
Only the other day I was telling Leigh and Butterz about my fave drive EVER which was in an early 1.6 GTi. The combination of 1.6 injected Peugeot pocket rocket and the (approx) 5 miles of Ridgeway in Pembrokeshire (circa 1991) was just incredible - I have yet to find a better road/car combination. To be honest, I doubt I ever will...it was a truly sublime experience that still makes my heart quicken and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up to this very day whenever I think of it.

And this is why I settled on the 'lowly' 1.6 (and the fact that it was a family owned car with a predominantly FPSH, and then enthusiast owned, despite the high miles. As you say, the combination of a revvy engine and a balanced chassis really do make for a lovely combination on the road. Saying that though, the 1.9 is probably easier to live with day to day with more torque present, taller gearing, and disc brakes making maintenance slightly easier . |

Bruce - you've summed up my feeling to a 205 GTi in a single paragraph - I've owned 1.4 & 1.6 and had some experience in a 1.9 I found the 1.6 to be the best simply because you could extract the best out of it so easily - I've not found another FWD pocket rocket that you could steer on the throttle so effectively since and it's probably for that reason that one will eventually be in my fleet (one day) |

Unless you're going to stick a set of AP calipers on there I wouldn't bother, the standard ones are more than capable. I wish I did this now rather than forking out on massive heavy brakes a few years ago. |

I've borrowed the 205's younger brother for a week from Peugeot's press fleet. Y'know, just for fun an' that.  Oh, and look - now it's full of fresh new tyres for the 205! Lovely. Swanky tat-hauler, this.  |
