Here's Dutton number 2. Rescued in 2011, looked at for 6 months before I ever turned a spanner it now runs a 2 litre pinto, type 9 5 speed and a silly 4.44 diff. Long term plans to bin the leaf springs and go five link, atlas axle and LSD. It really deserves better treatment but to be honest it's a hack for going to the tip, parts runs etc. Time and money stop me from making it into anything else and if it gets too pretty I'll have to get something else to do the mucky jobs in My Dutton Sierra II by Adrian Southgate, on Flickr Untitled by Adrian Southgate, on Flickr Did me proud last winter and saved struggling with the Legerra in the Snow.

I love when someone shows love to an unloved breed of kitcar. Most of these must be lying in a right old mess 'round the back of some farm building. That's the nicest example I've seen. Nice choice of wheel, and the dark blue really works.

I have to echo Darryl's comments about your Sierra being one of the nicest examples around. It certainly has a presence.

Thanks Guys. It has 'audio presence' too, westfield side pipe donated for the MOT by a fellow DOC member. They need the bull bar to cover the 'lada' front as my mrs calls it and the wheels are an ebay bargain that are now losing chrome fast. Now all I have to do is fix the broken type 9 and I might be able to drive it again. The good thing about a kit is you can do whatever you like to it and no one can ever call it wrong. This one has peugeot cab leather front seats, breakers yard find for £30. really comfortable on long trips, just a shame you arrive deaf in one ear.

Pickups are rare these days, needs to be preserved My mrs would however kill me dead if I even look at another Sierra. We already have three at the house and a Phaeton 'project' in a lockup. If he does want to 'recycle' it I know of someone in my area who fancied a pickup.

I've bitten the bullet and the engine and box are coming out to replace the thrust bearing and check the box internals for broken bits. It was making some really loud noises last time it was driven so a bit concerned about what I might find inside. I also intend on lowering the floor and removing part of the tunnel so the seats can be refitted closer to the centre. That'll stop them hitting the roll cage when pushed backwards. Its not so tidy inside having been re-incarnated a few times there are more than a few holes in the floor. IMAG0057 by Adrian Southgate, on Flickr The raised centre tunnel isn't needed as there is at least 3 inches of clearance on the prop so thats getting lowered from just in front of the gearstick all the way to the back. The floor is currently a mess with loads of ropey glass work and filler that all need cleaning up.

NOOoooooo I'm showing three known on the club register and two more that are not.... Fred's would have made six known examples... Oh Well, nobody loves them anyway A long shot I know as how it's gone now but is there any chance of getting the body/chassis Serial number off Fred? Just so I can fill in the little box of sadness on our club database that says scrapped.

Reg- SHG 418X Chassis- 52071 Colour- Black Registered- 20-4-82 Ian Thanks Ian The chassis number should be S2071, all the duttons followed a numerical sequence and just the prefix letter changed dependant on body type. S for Sierra, M for Melos, L for legerra etc. top stuff with the info though. only another 4000+ cars to track down now. As a serious note here peeps. if anyone knows of a dutton hidden in a shed or a barn it would be really useful to be able to add this sort of info to our register. TWD never admitted to keeping any records of quantities of each model, at least none the club have access to and trying to build up a list of whats gone and whats still around is doing my head in Changed the gearbox oil tonight using a very large syringe, rubber pipe and a towel...didn't half get some funny looks from the neighbours..

My mistake, just had a better look at the log book and it is indeed S2071. My uncle gave me all the original paper work he'd kept when he bought the kit, inc price lists, a Dutton News paper (spring 1981, 3rd edition)and even a Dutton safety recall letter regarding the bonnets from June 1982!. I also had a Dutton Phaeton S4 which was written off when it got run into ;- Reg- Q485 GFV Chassis- i'll have to find the log book... Colour- Blue Ian

The club is looking at buying some of the rarer models and storing them up for spares so we don't have to get them written off any more but can do the buy back and repair yourself trick. I know we won't be able to do cars that have been written off already but if people know that parts are available then it may be a bit easier to keep the old crates on the road.
