Up for sale is my 1992 Jaguar XJ40 Sovereign with 78,000 miles.
I bought this car a few weeks ago with no MOT and no Tax as it had been stored in a garage for 4 years. I had it delivered to mine, gave it a quick once over and submitted it for its MOT. It drove ok, and I was very surprised to only have it fail on a number plate bulb and deep crack in one of the tyres. The spare has since been put on and the bulb was replaced, and the car was given a new MOT! Pretty good I thought for a 21years old car that hasn't been used for so long!
There are a few advisories for the MOT, all relating to the tyres. As it has been stood for a while, there are signs of wear on the tyres.
Since the MOT, I have put 6 months road tax on which finishes in Jan 2014, and this weekend also did a full oil change, oil filter, air filter and spark plugs. I also have a new fuel filter, but I haven't got round to fitting this yet. I have done a few miles in the car this weekend and it runs like a dream.
I have been told that this is quite a rare 'Sports Pack' model, which was a factory option. This includes the 16' wheels (5x alloys), lowered suspension, two tone coach line running the length of the car and Limited Slip Diff.
The interior is in beautiful condition with magnolia leather and blue pipping. The seats are fully electric and work! It has the original double depth Jaguar carpets as well. The car has its original stereo, although 'Daimler' branded and also a functioning 6 disc multi changer. The air blows hot and cold in the cabin, although the first two stages of the blower don't seem to work. It also has a working sun roof! I know the earlier XJ6's had a few electrical issues, but this seems to be a very well sorted car. I have been told that the steering wheel is a fairly rare item, and that the trinket tray between the two passenger footwells in the rear is also a very rare part.
The alloys are very nice 16' items and look fabulous on the car. There are one or two very minor kerb marks, but these are very very minor. These alloys alone can sell well into the £000's!
The bodywork is fairly sound, but this a 21year old car and there are some rusty areas, the worst being the front N/S wing, but a spare comes with the car. There is also a hole in the floor beneath the passenger seat that will need attention at some point. This should just be a quick plate up job.
I bought this car to save it and took a gamble on how it would do at MOT time. The car does look good, but would benefit from a tidy up, and someone who maybe has a garage who can lavish some attention to it. I've done the first bit, but would like someone else to take over from me. I'm sure the car could be broken for very good money, but that would be a crime! It is the second Jaguar I have bought this summer, having bought and saved a 3ltr S-type, which I sold last weekend.
Anyway, feel free to ask any questions, I will do my best to answer them.
