![](http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s124/gti6pete/Theescort.jpg) 1991 J plate Ford Escort 1.4 "Fresco" ....It had a sunroof don't you know! I was 20 years old (late starter) and insurance was £1200 TPFT. I added a cheap sound system and RS alloys before crashing it into a dry stone wall, Repairing it and then rolling it!

My first car was an orion lx 1.3. And yes it was a Rotbox but unlike some i never really loved it and replaced it after a few months with an equally rotten but a bit more upmarket escort glx. I think it was the few months I drove around in my mums old fiesta 1.6s That I did love and that was a rotbox too.

I wouldnt go down the regal route being a new driver. just having three wheels you would probably roll it in a week. But a kitten would be a good bet.

If your only 14 why don't you find something that you like that costs nothing and will be a propper retro when you pass your test like a micra or an early 106. Then you can get parts and tools for christmas and birthdays. By the time you pass you will have a propper one off retro ride. Believe me if I could go back and do that I would.

This was my first car, 1978 1850HL Dolly. ![](http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/elmotheewokking/Lolomite/Dolly.jpg) Had it nearly 5 years now. Kinda ruined it a bit, apparently. ![](http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h75/elmotheewokking/Lolomite/DSC_0743_zps07a6c5c6.jpg)

My first car. I loved it. ![](http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x262/Mikey-MK/UTF-8BUllINDA5WS5qcGc.jpg) And me in it, outside the house i rented with a couple of workmates. I was 17, eight years older than the car (the white Rover was only three years old!). ![](http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x262/Mikey-MK/UTF-8BTWUgaW4gUllILDEwMiBIaWdoIFN0L.jpg)

mine was a meastro van 1.3 rusted out in the end my advice would be that insurance will be obscene no matter what u get so get a throbbing v8 if you fancy and save like hell for the next 3 years

Insurance was around £600 IIRC which is downright fantastic for an 18-year-old male, and left plenty of insurance budget free to satisfy its biblical thirst. Which yours won't have. I too found that as a 17 year old, very cheap insurance was available for old Series Land Rovers via country-bumpkin-friendly insurers like the NFU. That was longer ago than I'd care to admit so I don't know if it's still the case, but it might be worth finding out.

My first car was a Morris Marina Coupe in 70s-tastic purple! No piano on the roof though....
It was just a cheap old shed at the time.

First car was a 1.3l Austin Maestro, donated to me by my Dad since he had just bought a Mondeo (the first of many - still buying them now!). Very much like the car below, except mine was a 1.3 with the MG bodykit (purchased from Looms Scappies for the princely sum of £10). I arrived at Looms and was told I could take it off myself, as it was in the compound rather than the yard. Took me all morning, and it was only as I was peeling what I thought was paint off the headrest that Dad advised me to stop touching that - its congealed blood...... ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) The car had no accident damage at all, but this blood on the head rest made me think someone might have ended their days in the drivers' seat with a head injury....I'll leave it to your imagination as to what caused them to bleed/ooze their grey matter onto the head rest.... ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Mine looked very similar to the image below, however mine didnt have the 2.0i stickers or the alloys (it did however have some very cheap and nasty Carnography wheel trims, held on wtih cable ties as the clips broke off the first time I tried to fit them; they were that cheap and brittle). Eventually sold for £140 and bought a Kenwood stereo and twin 10" Sub enclosure for the Mk.5 Escort 1.4 I replaced it with. Had her only 9 months, during which I crashed it twice, had the locks done over and the stereo nicked, and aso had to have a mate sit in the back one cold night home from the cinema since the rear door locks had frozen open and we couldn't shut the rear doors - he sat there all the way home in the middle holding both doors shut..... ![](http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b173/Maxxxer/maestro.jpg)

![](http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x119/Bungle10/Opel_Kadett_City_zps87a22fe4.jpg) 1977 Opel Kadett City 1196 in the same colour as this one including the Rostyles. Carried me through my student years, introduced me to motorsport on road rallies, PCTs and autotesting. Took me round Europe and Ireland and racked up 150k on two engines. Sadly sold as a shell part way to being converted to a stage rally car when I had to move into rented accommodation at the other end of the country at short notice.

Maxxxer - love the Maestro..that just made me setup a new saved search on ebay! my first one was my grandads mk3 fiesta: ![](http://sarkiesparkingspace.co.uk/images/fiestaside.jpg) ![](http://sarkiesparkingspace.co.uk/images/fiestaback.jpg) ![](http://sarkiesparkingspace.co.uk/images/fiestaint1.jpg) It had done about 30k when I got it, and no rust anywhere.. I added a puma gearknob (which was the first thing I ever bought from ebay...back in the days when you used to send a cheque off! it's still on the Capri). I added 50k to it in about 3 years, then p/x'd it for the mondeo when my daughter was born)

i had a 1.1 mk1 fiesta ghia, i bought it as a shell when i was 16 and finished it right before my 17th. Had a brand new 1.1 crate motor still in the original ford crate from spain, all new bushes, steering rack, bearings ect ect, was basically a brand new car once done. I used it for 6 months and then 'modernized' and bought my mk2. I really miss this car ![](https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/530868_10200249637155754_702475302_n.jpg)
