well, having asked around on here about copped fuel line and being recomended copper heating pipe by various knowledgeable people i popped down to B&Q and bought their finest small bore copper heating pipe.
just before xmas i mentioned on a reliant forum that i was replacing all my fuel pipes on the kitten with the fore mentioned pipe and was met by a guy saying 'NO!!!! use the real stuff as heating pipe brakes down allow copper particles into your carb' this guy had used it on his landrover racer and ended up replaceing it all and rebuilding the carb and various other fuel system parts.
i assumed this was just bullshizzle based on the fact that there is frequent talk on the same forum about how the toxins in used engine oil eat away at the sumps and make them 'porus' allowing oil to seep through, but i still put about 1" of my copper fuel line into a jar of petrol and left it to soak gaving it a stir now and again.
The results, well after the first few weeks nothing happend and i lost interest, but today, after about 3months i had a look in the jar to see:
as you can see the fuel has turned a nasty bronzey colour from its original weak urine solution colouration.
now i know that J has used this stuff on the imp with no problems, and dom has just fitted it to his kaddett, but if you where to leave fuel in the system when you parked up the car for winter or simular it could do this.
i havent fitted any of it yet to my car, but am in two minds about it as it doesnt look too bright.
in everyday use it would probably be fine, but the copper does seem to degrade over time leaving deposits in the fuel.
(or am i going crazy and 3 month old petrol always looks like that?)
