Hi Everyone So for the 2nd time this year i'm going to go and see the old girl this weekend. Back in January I started a new job and at the same time we started work on an extension for the house. bit too much bitten off perhaps) So things haven't gone quite to plan with the Magnum as I was hoping to be working on it alongside Simon, but luckily had the car been ready I'd have had nowhere to store it. I had an update that she needs some suspension bushes, which would explain some of the roly poly nature I experienced last time I drove her I guess. Powerflex weren't very helpful to be honest, suggested I looked through their Kit Car/Universal section. Well without knowing what the measurements were and not being even remotely next to the car that ruled Powerflex out. Superflex on the other hand, knew the car, knew how many kits i'd need and even threw in Delivery and knocked the VAT off. So that's where my money went! Can't wait to see it.. Pics to follow.. In the meantime can anyone suggest a re-upholsterer in/around/near/up to an hour away from Bristol (not Krych Trimming - Good but too expensive) I had a contact from Bruce aka Mystery Machine but it's gone very quiet, so I guess he's busy. I just need a centre panel re trim and 1 side panel repair/replacement on some early Porsche tombstones. Things bought/fitted so far...
Cortina engine mounts with one off brackets. SR20Det from a low mileage 180Sx. 180Sx 5spd gearbox. NISMO lightened flywheel. A brake servo from a vehicle I've forgotten. A radiator from a Volvo I think. A natty little handmade bracket to offset the Handbrake slightly. Original gear knob modified to fit 180Sx gear stick. A full set of Superflex polyurethane bushes. A 7 dial dash cluster - see below.
Things to source...
An intercooler. A 3 spoke steering wheel. Gauges for 7 dial dash cluster/ one off unit, having spoken to the helpful chaps at caigauge.com these should be quite nice. Bear Dog developments adjustable suspension bits n pieces. GAZ Shocks or similar.
The above is to try and remind me so will no doubt grow/shrink depending on how I get onHere's a pick of the direction i'd like to go in with regards to the look of the wheels.... stolen from Anglia68 's thread (hope you don't mind) (would love an Anglia too) In other news I'm on my third mk2 MR2 T Top, trying desperately hard not to hit it with a modifying stick but it only cost me £100 to buy. Obviously an uprated clutch had to be sourced with new cover cost a small fortune, a tad over £50 for some welding on the rear section of both sills. A cautionary cambelt as it hadn't been changed for 15 years and an oil change later i'm still quids in, she a cracking little motor with leather interior and only 103k miles on it. The T tops don't even leak and still have the original stow bags, a first in my book! Next job for her is a bit of detailing to bring the brightness into the "Brilliant Red" pinkish paint Ciao for now Nick

Need to see this car mate give me a boost on mine. Anglia is nice too and I'm so tempted to sell my firenza to fund one. Get yours back and eventually mine will have a playmate all be it a lot slower than yours lol.

It’s still going, I need to get a new photo hosting account.
Just had 4 weeks off following the birth of my daughter, need to get back over once things have settled down.
It’s been a tough pregnancy so car wasn’t a priority but am aiming for it to be completed 2018.

Hi All Been a while, car is home. I recently sent the 4ha axle off to Ian at www.ianjemison.co.uk . It’s being modified to fit the standard Magnum fixing points and is being kitted out with an mx5 brake setup and jag LSD. This means I’ll be changing the PCD to 4x100, so will need to change the front axles to match. I may be able to keep the alley cat reps if I mod them but expect they’ll have to go, won’t be sure until the axle is back so I can check clearances. It’ll be a few weeks until the axle is back, will do a video update shortly.

Tonight I fitted this period Mountney, it didn’t really come back after a good clean so I sprayed it satin black after prepping it as best I could. Never painted anything properly before so quite pleased with my effort. (Not counting the paint “fix” after a petrol leak as that was a bodge with a paint pen and a sticker) All that is left is to stick the Mountney emblem on. The axle hasn’t arrived as yet as the LSD cupboard was bare 😁

... two more years have passed. 2020 has thrown us all a few curve balls, however this’ll be on the road next year, honest.

Jodie at Promech has been entrusted to finish it off as some mistakes need rectifying and half completed jobs need completing.
It’s become a total refurb to be honest, she’ll be getting de-chromed, the vinyl roof will be going too, added to which after picking up a ding in the front wing during storage she’ll be getting a full respray.
Essentially a Magnum that thinks it’s a Firenza 😁

Well after nearly 8 years this thing is going on the dyno tomorrow for it's first shake down and mapping session.
This vid is already a year old and for a 2nd start up wasn't too bad, a couple of little niggles to nip up, however when it came to start it up before xmas the gremlins got in.
2 starter motors and water pump later plus some ECU gubbins to sort out from previous garages hash up and we are close to having her home.
Things to do when she’s back will be to arrange for the front seats to be trimmed, plus a carpet repair/replace. I've well and truly missed my previous slots thanks to the pandemic and multiple painters take the proverbial p...
Jodie has done an amazing job teaching himself to paint on his truck that I entrusted him to paint the car too!

Dyno update … never made the appointment, she’s fighting til the last. No.2 injector has started to randomly not fire, so whilst I had planned to upgrade these later with some Nismo/Jecs 555’s they haven’t landed yet.
Dyno day rescheduled. 🥺

Nismo injectors now arrived and waiting to be installed, Lambda controller being rewired to maintain sanity, plus being fitted with a better connector.
I'm hoping to go see it next Thursday... we will see what that brings!

Yeah 300 brake would be the target, probably need a bigger turbo over the s14’s t28 or 4bar of fuel pressure to see a bit more.
I’d forgotten that next Thursday is my sons 10th birthday, not going to miss that, plus with his party at the weekend I’ll have to find a better time to go see the old girl.

Nearly finished engine wise, getting closer to being RR weekender ready. We have 270bhp from yesterday - it’s a bit more than I thought I would see at 8psi 😊 so god knows where this will end up with the 555’s fitted.

I fear that I may not make it after all, ECU had developed an issue with switching off randomly. Fuse box was a mess and initially thought it was this causing the issue due to two dodgy connections being found. However this was resolved and tidied With it refitted the car was given a going over for its final road test & boost mapping. But as Jodie was about to get in the car, after approximately 15mins of idling, the engine stopped. It would restart immediately but then only run for a minute. It seems that as the ECU becomes warm something is causing it to switch off. This will need investigating by Emerald, I doubt they’ll be able to turn it around in time for the weekender. See what they say tomorrow. 🥺

Had a similar problem years ago where a car would drive 15 miles and then stop leave it a few mins and it would restart and drive another 15 miles

Think it’s the injector side of the ECU as its not an issue just being on for 2hrs with no data traffic.

Think I’ve found the issue…
Shaun is going to test the injectors tonight, but the thinking is that whilst the SR’s injectors are classed as high impedance (supposedly 11ohms), the ECU is looking for 14-16ohms!
So if this is the issue then running a couple of ballasts should resolve it.
EDIT: unless that’s a bad idea?
