I welcome the return of the series, but as a series-starting show it was quite weak. Even Clarkson himself has stated it wasn't their strongest show.
Some lukewarm hatchbacks, a couple of loaned (not rented) Toyota Corollas.
The only real redeeming features were Joss Stone, Rachel Riley, and Jimmy Carr saying "I don't know what super-powers you people have" to Warwick Davis.
The montage shows promise for future episodes though.

yer it thought the first episode was a bit weak, but there does look to be some crackers coming up, specially the hover craft transit

Keep an eye out for hovercraft features. In one of the clips you see Clarkson crash a black and silver one..that's one of ours and it's what I build for a living. More to come ;-)

Stop complaining. Start enjoying. I don't see anyone complaining apart from you complaining about non-existent complainers. A couple of us (including one of the presenters) have said this episode wasn't one of their strongest content wise.

I thought it was quite entertaining "the fastest car in the world" had me and my lad in stitches!

I'm glad it turns out to be a weak episode, i didn't watch it all the way to the end and was worried I'd suddenly grown up and gone off it.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I'm glad it turns out to be a weak episode Yeah well that's clearly great news. I didn't find it weak at all, it's just another installment of mindless car based fun. I love being able to switch my brain off and endulge in some petrol fuelled blokery. Next Sunday Jezza visits Scotland in a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and a BAC Mono hits the test track. Sounds awful.

Next Sunday Jezza visits Scotland in a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and a BAC Mono hits the test track. Awesome, can't wait! After I've irritated my wife by sodding off for the day to go to the Retro Show, then coming home and making her watch the Grand Prix, this'll be just the tonic.

My only criticism is that I found Hamsters piece on the 'hot hatch revival' completely un-engaging! The camera work was batently trying to make them look more fun than they are, but only managed to show his complete lack of driving ability
That said, I thought the rest of the show was pretty much on par with what I expect (and hope for) from a TG episode and I look forwards to the remainder of the series
ps, I almost wet myself at Jimmy Carrs (not entirely PC) comment to Warwick Davies.

Cool. It worked for me. Actually, I liked the hot-hatch feature, but moreso because we have a 1.25 Fiesta as the 'sensible vehicle' and can imagine what fun it would be with 170bhp.

Ive never liked the reasonably priced car segment and watching James complain about being uncomfortable bores me especially as they do it to him "on purpose" so for me it WAS weak, all that was left for me to enjoy was the hot hatches which i did like.
