$500 to ship that is ridiculous. For my work, I regularly have to ship parts from either Germany, Japan or Indonesia. I could get triple that amount shipped for less than $300 AUD. For Germany and Indonesia stuff we use DHL. They're great most of the time, just make sure the weight/size is properly declared. They seem to charge extra if they have to reweigh it or it's not the same as what's declared. Also, you may want to get them to give that a good wash. Most quarantine places would have a fit if you tried to bring that in. The States seems crazy expensive for shipping out. I bought a few interior plastic parts for mine, which weigh nothing and aren't particularly bulky, but the guy was getting quotes like that. Probably my fault as I'd asked him to avoid the post because of the pain here. In the end, they're coming United States Parcel Service, which was sensible money, so we'll see how we get on. As always, a bit of digging, posting on various forums and FartsBook delivered. Now just need to wait for delivery.

Well, after starting out at a crazy quote for getting the LCA to the UK yesterday, today got a lot better. I posted the same basic question on various forums I frequent as well as messaging Steve Lang of Langies Hot Rod Shop, who I had used before to bring in my complete front end rebuild kit at sensible money. I also contacted my friend Dennis Jones who is involved in NASCAR Truck racing and other motorsports in Missouri via FB and then gave him a call this morning early before he went to work to check out prices for me too. Various replies from various people left me still looking. By 09.30 U.S. Time I got a text from Paul in Oklahoma to say he had managed to get the parcel sent off at $100.00 for shipping. I was happy to pay that, could not collect the part in the U.S. for that. Thank you all for the input and advice on getting this here. This is why the interwebs rocks.

Excellent. Your mojo should get a top up from that. It may take a while over the Festive season, but once cleaned, painted and rebuilt, I can look at fitting it and the front cross member..... Mojo indeed. DHL (at least here in germany) would have charged some extra money for the parcel not being wrapped in a rectangular box. That is funny. Car forums like this one restore faith in humanity all the time. Car people are almost always really cool and it's awesome to see you are able to work with some of them! Paul, you are so right. I guess once you start to feed Karma, she feeds you as well.

Today I went back to the scrap yard for the first time in months. It has changed, new ownership, new rules...... Thankfully I can still go inside and look for stuff, as before, funny how respecting the yard, guys and their rules, has paid off. I now have to always wear a hi-viz jacket. Only rule change. They have cleared a load of the tonnage as they one part owner has been bought out and it is now being run much tighter. A couple of weeks ago I saw a really cool mod where someone had fitted some small steel trunks/toolboxes under the bed, behind the cab, where extra fuel tanks would normally be fitted. I found an old BT (British Telecomunication) steel toolbox that should make just the right sized toolbox under the bed. It's very rusty, but a clean up, rust converter and paint should see it ready to be fitted. Price: one kilo of sugar...... Mojo booster.

Got in from work...... Parcel wrapped in Cammo Gorilla tape all the way from Florida. Thank you Captain Erik !! Pretty spot on where I am taking my collecting these days. Different is good. Plates were on this little red number. Anyone who likes trucks.... I like.

Christmas tomorrow....... Here's to a day spent with family and friends in the spirit of Christmas. And may 2016 bring us all what we need and some of what we want. At about 10.00am the doorbell rang, and when I walked up I saw the read reflection from beyond in the street, so no UPS Brown van or DHL van. Just Post Office, probably something off eBay for Nicola. She does buy quite a lot of stuff from eBay and Amazon. Opening the door, I was met by a friendly smile and a chap in a Hi-Viz jacket. CHRISTMAAAAAAASSSSSS !!! It has taken exactly a week to the hour from the time Paul "NevEno" has posted it in Ada, Oklahoma last week. That's what $100.00 or £70.00 in shipping buys you. It means that I am technically two weeks ahead of where I thought I would be at this point, had not expected the parcel to be here till the middle of January with all the public holidays and other priority mail going about. Signed the mans electronic gizmo, made him pose for a pic and took the parcel, wishing him a great Festive season. Came indoors, fought my way into the parcel that Paul had made up. Weirdly, with imminent redundancy, Insomnia currently controls my nights, so at 04.30 this morning I had made a cuppa tea, and was surfing various forums I go onto when I saw that Paul was active on www.67-72chevytrucks.com so I sent him a PM , he texted back immediately to say he was awake, so I called him in Ada on FaceTime and we chatted for at least half an hour about trucks of course. One of the things was the Lower Control Arm that was somewhere over the Atlantic. Once I made it into the parcel, I was greeted by another "Christmas prezzie" Paul had sandblasted, ground back, tidied up and finally primed the control arm for me. THAT IS WAAAAAY BEYOND AWESOME !! Thank you mate. Finished my coffee and Digestive biccies and went back to the garage where I had been cleaning up the BT toolbox after mowing the lawn earlier. Matched up the two control arms........ They were the same, unlike my original that was 8mm different to the drivers side replacement. Painted it later, and will leave it a few days and then rebuild it, followed by refitting to the front cross member. So that was today, going out tenpin bowling with the kids and my 85 year old father in law tonight, same as last year and it was a hoot. Be safe out there people.

Thanks mate The American lard of the company I went to work for end of May has made the whole UK, Germany and all the Nordic countries redundant. Corporate decision and nobody had a say. I am gutted as things were already going well, and my boss was happy, but what is worse is having to start the whole application and interview process again. This time of year our industry is dead as a Dodo.

With the rebuild of the truck, there are some parts that one would be silly not to just replace while in there. It's things like this that pushes up the price of a rebuild, but if my wife does not know......... The springs and clips on the drums for my and Martin's trucks are only going to cost us $10.00 per end plus postage so for $20.00 or £13.50 the brakes will have new parts again. Having a great friend like Don in Arkansas makes these things a lot easier, so Martin and I asked him to arrange the parts for us and I popped some cash over via PayPal (Thank you mate) to pick them up for us and send them through when he gets time away from work and other responsibilities. Last night he sent these pics...... They do look a lot more impressive than some of the rusty, dodgy bits that came off my truck. Martin came over today as he needed some steel, we popped over to my favourite yard to look for some steel for his gearbox cross member that he now has to manufacture. He also needed to look at some parts on my truck that he needs to copy. With Martin's extra hands my cross member is now bolted in, and the drivers side LCA bolted in. The passenger side needs its ball joint to be removed as the LCA is damaged and will be replaced by the one that came from Paul "NevEno" once I push in the ball joint. And an even more awkward job done as it needed a spare hand to lift the trailing arms in via the jack and getting the bolts through and buttoned up. Next I need to contact a member on Volkszone who previously sent me a PM to offer his press, should I need it, so that I can push the one out and fit it to my new LCA. Another small job that to done was cleaning up the little BT toolbox that will be fitted under the bed. Scraped all the excess paint, then some blasting and flap wheel grinding, next will be rust converter and a couple of coats of Hammerite. All it needs in my book, maybe a coat of underseal too. That's it for today.

That is going to be a piece of Fine Art when it's done! This looks like powder coating, is it? Hi mate, I should be rebuilding and fitting that right now, but got sucked in by internet over lunch. I have used Hammerite all along, and this will get a second coat once fitted as well. Hammerite is not perfect, but as a working truck, having cleaned all the parts, chassis etc, it is good enough for me. I cannot justify the cost of POR15 or powder coating. If you work it sensibly, Hammerite works just fine.

I hope this question has not been covered a hundred times before. I have just started to reassemble my trucks front end. As part of the rebuild I am replacing the lower bump stop rubbers with new, the uppers will get refitted as they were good. However, with silicon spray and a certain amount of force, I cannot get them refitted, they seem to have too much material, being rubber they seem to take on the imprint of the slot into which it is supposed to fit, but even after clamping the "arrow" section in the vice to shape and narrow it down, I cannot get it to stay in, it seems one side sort of fits, but neither of the lips actually clip in or slip in under the edges of the slot. My LCA as it stood before I painted it. One is now fitted to the cross member, without the bump stop anyone LCA is still on the bench. The items..... Just out of the packets. OK...... So this is where I need help please. How do you guys get them to slip in, fit or stay. The way I had this one stick is not right, as I am sure the first bit of bumpy road and it would vibrate out and end up in a ditch, leaving the front end with no bump stops. All advice and mockery appreciated. Thanks a lot.

As for your bump stops, bit of fairy liquid and a g clamp should get it in.Cut a vee into a block of wood and squeeze it in with the clamp. If it's really stubborn whip out the ky jelly and a big stick ....lol

If it's really stubborn whip out the ky jelly and a big stick ....lol PROBLEM SORTED. 60 seconds per side !! Fairy dishwashing liquid, pot of boiling water to heat up rubber bump stops. Good lubrication on all surfaces. Broad flat screwdriver to guide and give minimal force to guide one side while keeping downward pressure then slipped other side home as well. Job Done !!

Weird update tonight, it's two steps forward, three steps back and then we end up back where we should be. When the passenger side lower control arm or wishbone threads got damaged while rebuilding it because it had been damaged prior to my ownership of the truck, the new ball joint was already pressed in, so this meant that it first needed to be pressed out and then refitted to the new unit Paul had posted over last week. I got two offers of presses yesterday one 10 miles and one 25 miles from home and waiting for Martin to get back to work next week was too far ahead. So I contacted Paul from VZI in Gillingham and then went over to his place this morning. I also spoke to JohnnyBravo of RR's who is 25 miles from here. Thank you very much guys. Always nice to step into a strangers house and find nice kids and a wife who looks half her age. Fay is clearly a supportive petrol head wife, lucky man is Paul. Into his garage, he is a VW Aircooled guy, with a beautiful restored split window bus....... We got the ball joint swapped over. Then got back to cars and VW's as I have owned a couple of Beetles before. This is Paul and son Frasers project Beetle. And more importantly, this was the engine destined for it........ But it got sold as he has other ideas for it. I eventually dragged myself away from there after two hours, would happily have spent the rest of the day chatting and seeing all his tricks n tools. I came home via the recycling yard as I needed some bits of steel I saw there yesterday. In typical style, Glen and I stood chatting about various things and bicycles came up.......... You can guess what next..... I now own this beauty. It needs a new front end, handle bars and some brakes. However, the basics are in place and my vision is NATO Cammo Green with US Army style stencilling details. The seat possibly upholstered in canvas. One of the tasks today was to refit the new bump stop rubbers, which initially fought me and refused to go in. After some hot water and dish washing liquid, it took me about 60 seconds per side to refit them. Job done !! Between various Trans Atlantic phone calls and other house tasks, not much else got done, so tomorrow I have some catching up to do.
