That almost looks like a San Francisco street!! The steep hill,"american sticker-bombed" ute,bearded fellow with flipflops who just comes back from garage-sale... You could have fooled me Grizz!! Looks like Joy's a keeper! What's her cat's name? Beautiful cat btw. Joy may be a keeper, we will see. There is a lot still to be discovered about each other. Mitzzi is the cat. Pretty for a boy, and very skinny. His purr is almost inaudible and he is not affectionate, but will let you handle him. He lives 95% outside, only comes for food twice a day. Even sleeps outside. I fortunately Wyzz always wants to play, and Mitzzi is not interested. Dog is actually lovely, just super jealous and possessive, like a child wanting to be centre of attention all the time. But I do like him, a lot. The advantages of being a magpie Grizz.. All the shelving and tools etc to hand. Magpie.... nice word for hoarder. Yes, I do like keeping stuff I can use or pass on to others. Need a few bent nails?

Further to the weekend actions. Withnmy usual insomnia waking me and being out the house by stupid-0-clock, I moved a load of tools, obstructions into my secure spare shed, yes I have that. Leaving the truck chassis, Snapon toolbox and motorbike as the only three things that now need moving about if I want to weld and grind. Toolbox may head into the next door area of the garage too leaving even less obstructions to move every time I want to work. I do like my garage so that I navigate in the dark, without killing myself. This will mean that I can literally steal an hour here and there to do little bits of work. Easy now. No excuses. Decorated the welder trolley and covered some damage on the toolbox with a couple of stickers, sent to me by Dennis in the USA and also Euan and Rogan. Then a bit of welding, after doing my ironing for the last two weeks and some laundry. Mixing the pink and blue jobs effortlessly here. This was round no 5 of the welding, I am happy to attach a seat belt to the B pillars now. Of course, while welding my helper, who has no bloody fear, had to come and inspect too. Insisting on pointing out the faults. Funny furry creature, weird how she loves being there where I work. Maybe she is on standby to call an ambulance if I do something stupid Finished the welding, not flattened the last welds back yet, had to shower and get over to Joys place. Will be feeding the backing plate for the seatbelt mounts up the side from below. Then tacking them in place for fixing the anchor points. One of the things I fixed for Joys place was an old frame that needed glueing and clamping for a few hours. I found the frame years ago, and could not see it become landfill so rescued it. Now the plan is to mount it on the wall, and then create a collage of smaller frames inside it, all with the same theme. Should look good once done. My only worthy find at Sunday’s single Bootfair, was a small, pretty smoking pipe for my collection. And lastly, some more of the weekends results, many more to go up, but planning,and mounting Joys lifetime of photos and family memories has taken time too. More to come. Hectic week ahead. Be safe.

Well, it’s been a rough week so far. Work pays the mortgage, but it does make one tired. Dennis has seen progress. He has started withthe floor joists (is that the right word) Today I found a few bits in two places along the South Circular A hardwood chair for my deck. The coffee table already went to a new home. Today a parcel came from Darkspeed...... 125mm grinder to take the flap wheels my lodger gave me for the truck resto. Thank you mate. Headed back in this direction. Loved this pic of the truck at the time. It’s been a hot day. Tonight even Dukey joined me for a couple of cold beers as it was too hot for the garage.

Yesterday ended up like this..... Today will be warmer it seems. Garage time may be interesting, after I finish the regular stuff like cleaning house, laundry and cutting grass this morning. Joy will be over later too.... A good thing to look forward to. And the lodger asked if he could use the telly downstairs for football..... I think he said England is playing somewhere in Russia. Do I give a toss??? Nope. Looking forward to some of this later though. And maybe fire cooked animal parts.

Postman dropped off an envelope from Ric “wreck diver” yesterday. Thank you very much Ric. To be added to my collection of randomness. Packard badge. Funny how sometimes four or five hours will show nothing but bring loads of change or progress. Yesterday I spent time clearing the last two boxes of Nicola’s late mums “stuff” that I discovered in the back corner of the garage, opening it all, unpacking and filming for her to decide in the end I can throw it all away, then cleared out a couple of Dyson vacuum cleaners and a small refrigerator plus a load of boxes and other stuff that accumulated over time. More space, and have moved the Snapon toolbox in there now. Then shoved the truck out into the sun, first time in years, and swept the garage, moved some other stuff around a bit more before pushing it halfway back in again, into some shade so that I could carry on with the speaker hole delete. Finished off grinding welds, looks like wibblepoo, possibly is, but smooth and flat. It got progressively hotter. By the time the primer was sprayed, I moved my car back over the street and noticed the temperature. Next job after a long cold drink was to start on the job that I have possibly feared the most since day one. Closing the radio hole. I will fit a new radio, out of sight, and with a remote control once the reassembly eventually starts. A couple of years ago, I paid about $25.00 plus postage to England for a section of dash from someone in the USA with the intent to weld it into the dash after removing the mangled hole that was a radio hole. I also managed to get what I think is a fairly rare ribbed (for pleasure) radio delete plate when we went parts hunting with Clem at Tubatrucks.com a few years ago in Arkansas.which I wanted to fit to the dash once the hole is repaired. Fits loosely inside the hole. So I decided yesterday, in the heat to try something else first...... Square off the hole with a Sharpie and a ruler and see if there was enough material to go for “Plan B“ which is the lazy route, but could mean less headache later vs cutting a large part of the dash out. I also straightened out the edges, which were all bent and mangled from generations of abuse. Then got out my powerfile, a bargain at £20.00 off Facebook tradepage a couple of years ago. Just seems to have a massive appetite for belts. Am I doing something wrong??

I would definitely be doing it the way you are trying to. If you cut a large bit out of the dash you will struggle to get it all straight again (IMO), doing the small bit keeps the strength of the recess and should result in less distortion. I might even try and put a small joggled edge on your repair patch and fit it from behind. Then you'd be welding into a groove and would need less grinding at the end.
On the belt eating, if you shove the powerfile in that hole and try to file the edge with the belt perpendicular (i.e. file is sticking straight out of the dash as you hold it) I find it catches unless you are very delicate. Better to try and get some angle on it so more belt is in contact with the metal.

When I stepped away last night (update in a bit) there was no distortion on the line between the tacks. I am wondering if the belts have not just all died on their glued joins...... I bought the tool a few years ago, so the joins could have perished. I am very much gentle with the tool. Will keep trying. that's a nice welder you have there, what make is it?? Thank you, The welder is a Blackline, bought directly from Rallysport but also available on eBay Can do mig and stick welding. The mig torch is 4 meters long, so really useful. And it is a Euro torch. Also infinite setting to get it really fine tuned for whatever job you do. I run if off a 15 amp plug extension in the garage, and where my Clark would Trip the power sometimes, this one has not done so yet.. I do like stickers, less so than before, and if you look at the other thread I have with Prozac the Berlingo..... That is Stickered for sure.

well, I just got back from B&Q where I went to look for powerfile belts, because the ones I have are snapping for not reason, unless age and living in the garage a few years, has compromised the glue on the joins. OUCH !! £7.00 plus for 3 belts. I checked on eBay and found that you can get 48 belts in four varying grits for £16.00 and free delivery. I will be ordering online. So after marking out the dash to get straight lines and waste as little as possible metal, I took my power file after using a flap disc on the long sides, to finish up squaring the hole. Squared off. Template made and copied. Transferred Offered up Prepped. Careful tacking. AND WALK AWAY........... I forced myself to walk away at this point, pack up, shower and cook dinner for Joy. Relaxed, drank a few beers, it was 7pm after all and England had won at their game of kickball. Just headed back to the garage now to carry on welding. Fingers crossed that I stay patient. Update later.

Just a copy and paste for me to have this on record. Nice belt sander. What kind of cost do the belts run at? Rian - I have just purchased 50 number x P40 belts for it and they cost 17.50 + vat so 35p each + vat - invaluable tool for getting into the small places & areas Finally my air powered power file gave the ghost this afternoon and seized - it was not a lot of money when I purchased it 2 years ago -ordered a new one this afternoon £30 + vat delivered in the morning from LKQ one of my paint material suppliers I prefer the air powered ones has they are half the size of the electric versions and can access most tight spaces Chris, Are these the standard/universal size . And how much air does the machine need? I assume not a lot.

Silly question but do you oil it ? I was always told to put a couple of drop of air tool oil in the bottom every day if you sue it a lot .
I picked up a Snap on Bluepoint air DA sander that did not work recently . All it needed was careful taking apart and two 5p O rings so it might be something like that.

I do not have one, this was copied from GrumpyNorthener’s thread on the Jowett accident repair. Love fixing stuff cheaply that gets thrown away for lack of interest in repairs Means free money again.

Dennis had a busy weekend. All the joists on his replica gas station are screwed together using screws and hangers, he likes the job done right. Remember the house/workshop/shed his son Adam and Hanna were building? Progress there too. Plumbing laid out and a backhoe brought in. By end of day all the trenches for plumbing were dug and created, leaving a pile of dirt and trenches everywhere. Tall building. Welcome to America. My Sunday was filled with two reasonable Bootfairs followed by some stuff I needed to do. Nice heavy duty bogey for the garage, cost me £5.00 or $7.50-ish. Then into the garage to carry on welding. A few years ago I managed to get a nice lump of copper to use as backing, both thermal and also for plug or infill welding. Two rounds later, alternate welds. Ground back and inspected. Thankfully patience delivered and no warping. Unfortunately I am not always very bright, admittedly. I kept snapping belts on the powerfile, JohnnyBravo suggested I may need to fine tune the setting and alignment. Ultimately had to stop work as I ran out of belts to snap. Ordered more off eBay, and will check setting of the finger. So job not complete yet. Point at which I shut shop and came n to shower and wait for Joy to visit. Happy so far. Not perfect, but at least all metal. Today I also got some more bits that may just help make the finishing easier.

Week continues to be busy, very busy, so no car or truck progress.
Was fortunate enough to work in London (a city I dislike traveling to and from now, with trains being cancelled daily) yesterday.
Able to watch all the flyby’s of the Royal Air Force, celebrating 100 years.
A search on Google or YouTube will give you better and more complete reporting from the BBC
My phone video of last flyby.
May get some grinding time in tonight on the truck tonight.

Ref adjusting the finger file. I use an aldi version and it has a wingnut affair to adjust. It needs doing on ever belt and still they last no time. I now buy wide belts and cut them myself. Enjoying the progress Rian.

Well. Spent a large chunk of today over at Craigs place 85 miles from home. The first thing is to get size into perspective. As we were discussing it, Craig suggested this was the S-Max of ots day. It certainly dwarfs my Focus. Random pics as uploaded. My favourite line. Felivered in the street and parked in the hedge, first job was to move it and then using Craigs wife to drive the Ford Ranger, we slowly let it down their sloped driveway. Happy man. Once we had the Suburban parked up it was time for inventory and closer inspection. Remember, Craig bought the car without trans and motor as he has a load of good parts already stashed away. We found some numbers inside the hood and front firewall. Any ideas? Airforce? Navy? After changing the front wheel to a new one, and removing the hideous modern rear view mirrors the manpower was tested Also ng with the other jobs today, a new rear axle, hubs and suspension parts were fetched. Packed away in the rear of the beneficiary. Clam Shell rear end is not common. Job done. Lorraine fed us some very sexy European deli food after we had wrapped up on the jobs that needed doing. After lunch and a beer, I noticed where Elli, Craigs daughter had been playing and had to complete the pic. Yes I enjoyd it. Saw it, had to complete it. And Craig gave me another air rifle skip find. It needs a seal on the barrel. BSA Meteor in .22 calibre with scope. And a box. After this I headed home down an M25 that was a bit congested. Got home late afternoon and went to my garage to play with my truck for a bit. A great day out.
