Good to see the van at Malvern on Saturday. It was getting a lot of good comments from the owners of the larger vehicles at the show Cheers, was our first show in the van, (also first night) Great day out, great weather. It did seem to go down well with the punters. Got the usual “2 bacon sarnies and a cup of tea please” followed by howls of laughter. (Starting to wear a bit thin already) Just waiting for some wag to call me Alfi Moon now… ha ha

Hi looks ace mate really really nice well done, but what's the idea behind the upside down Citroen front grill badge? Hi. Just a daft feeling I had during reassembly. I also think it looks better that way up. As a mechanic I'm not a huge fan of Citroens. Wouldn’t own a modern one if you gave it to me.. So to mess with the logo kinda feels right….

Funny i am not a Citroen fan either BUT I do think the best thing about the older Citroen's is the massive Badge it looks very cool. Enjoy the van, p.s. can you put some pictures of the inside of the HY now it's kitted out? cheers.

As a mechanic you should be able to appreciate those double helical gears that the logo represents, shouldn't you? Anyway, nice work!

The tires on the HY are 400x17 which have a diameter of 690mm , the VW passat wheels ( donor car , engine and auto box )are only 620 mm . The 185 60 17 conti's are 654mm but 215 60 17 are equal to the originals but this means the passat speedo wont be displaying the correct speed . decisions decisions !

I'm afraid you've got yourself confused. The van has 17x400 or 19x400 tyres. Both of these are 16 inch rims.

Hi I’ve put 205/65R16C on my van with inner tubes (you need tubes in original h van wheels) Cornered “VERY” hard (country lane, blind bend) Frightenly hard to be honest. Iv’e had no problems at all. Also the Audi speedo reads bang on, compared with my sat nav. Hope this helps.. Dave..

Thanks for that , you learn something new everyday ! I'm now trying to overhaul the torsion bar suspension but its not letting go (very dry and rusty) . Do you know if the rubber bushes are supposed to rotate around the torsion bars or just flex within themselves ? the adjuster tubes have become one and don't turn. Large vats of wd40 and slide hammers may be needed !

On the rear end of the outer torpq tube (Adjuster end)there is a blanking plug remove this and fill with wd40 there is a handful of loose ball bearings put in through this hole. They tend to seize up (hope you understand that) Dave

Thanks for the info . I did notice a ball bearing in the hole when I removed the short m6 screw , but assumed it was to do with a grease nipple !

Another problem has emerged after stripping the front suspension ! the splines which locate the lower wishbone in the bushes have rusted away . I need to replace the splined tube and bushes but I don't think they are available . I need to design and make a poly bush with a bronze bearing to fit inside where the old bushes sat , this is 68.3mm od and 48mm id ( not much room )Any body used cast-able polyurethane before?
