thats where they started, may not have stayed that way, but as with most custom mods, roof chops are definatly performance influenced.
even your low sleek merc lowriders are made to look smooth and streamlined, no one builds cars to look slow and ungainly.

Ok in a label free response I'd just say I disagree that roof chops are or ever were all about performance I am with Seth on this one

you're both right.
Not sure who was chopping tops first, the bonneville guys or the kustom guys but I suspect it was the bonneville lot.
however as 99.9999% of us don't actually race our cars competitively - its for looks.
