That's looking terrific. What engine are you planning to run? I can't recall I'll run the injected 1.6 cvh unit as long as its works, otherwise i'll fit a rotary which i've also got. Had chance on saturday afternoon to roll the car out as i needed to get the passenger door open to feed the heater pipes up the sill. I ordered 5m of 16mm heater hose which i fed down the A post and jiggled into the sill. the hose was long enough to pull through the sill so i could connect it to 15mm copper pipe. Then it was a simple job of pulling the hose back into the cabin. Did this twice for the out & return feeds. One got connected to the existing outlet on the themostat housing and other plumbed into the pipework that exits the inlet manifold and return back into the water pump. On these engines, the water flows out of the thermostat into the top rad then water pump sucks water in from the the bottom outlet on the rad. Had to make sure the heater return and the cylinder head return plus the expandsion tank were all plumbed into the main pipe going to the water pump. Got a couple of items on order before the coolant system can be filled. If you need a hand with getting the CVH up to scratch let me know. My dad (probably more him!) and I have both had far too many CVHs over the years! It seems even now I could not quite get away from them! I was about to say that the water system was not plumbed in right but it seems that it is after reading the paragraph a few times . If I am correct you have done the following (apologies for repeating things) -Engine takes cold water in via the lower rad pipe into the water pump -Top engine bypass hose on the thermostat housing goes into the heater, back out of the heater to go into the lower rad hose, with the expansion tank hose also going into this. You could also take the header tank feed off the radiator ; this is how the earlier CVHs were fed and indeed mine . Will the expansion tank be large enough however? This is looking superb. I thought you said it would be miles away from being a runner and roadworthy .

ChasR.....yes, I've plumbed it as you have described which took me a while to confirm what was right.Mainly because the heater return, manifold water outlet and expansion tank all need to be plumbed into the lower rad to pump pipe. Theres also a bleed pipe coming off the top of the thermostat which goes to the expansion tank. Luckily the classic range rover expansion tank has a take off for that.

Range rover classic expansion tank seemed an ideal fit so i've lashed it up in the only feasible spot in the engine bay. Not pretty but it works....and need to see if the rad copes before making it all "nice" Wiring for the radiaitor fan...a bit messy but the pic taken was only 50% though the job as i couldn't find my soldering iron. Will finish it all off tonight and tidy up the wiring so it follows existing main wiring loom. i also fired it up very briefly last night. it fired up fully after a few attempts but is a bit rough. the plan is to roll it out of the garage this weekend and fire it up to set what happens. Getting it up to temp will hopefully open up a stuck injector.

Click on the PIC above for the video....its runs! The exhaust needs to be quieter and the base idle needs to be reset as its "hunting" on idle. The IACV is not stuck as it kicks in to stop it stalling. Managed to wire up the temp gauge too.
Next update in the new year unfortunately.

Always great to see progress like this . If you have no book for the CVH engine you can borrow my Escort Haynes manual for a bit if you wish.

Well done!
I was wondering about the idle, but that explains it.
Looking forward to hearing how you get on next.

I was wondering about the idle, but that explains it. Yeah, it had me puzzled for a while. If i manually opened the thottle, it would hold revs quite happily. There is a brass punger type screw on the side of the throttle body which you adjust to get the base idle. you have to get the engine up to temp first and unplug the IACV then set the base idle. That vid was the first start up, lots of smoke from fuel and curse word being burnt off. i started it up later on and it was much better, quicker to fire up and less smoke. Looks like i will have to fit the cherry bomb silencer but need to fabricate a tight 180 degree exhaust bend so it'll fit.

Its mainly been the wiring to mate the fiesta engine loom and edis to the covin loom, but google has served me well. i'll probably be tapping you for other things though

Temp gauge wired up and working - VDO gauage and standard ford sender. Next wire to hook up to the rev counter. Currently working on the cable linkage to the ford throttle body. i stripped off the throttle body and discovered the idle adjust screw seized so have found a decent used one on ebay. Also got to fit a new gas pedal as the standard beetle one is knackered. I've also ordered a couple of jetex exhaust bends to fit the second exhaust silencer. Holiday, illness, slating the front lawn and digging out the mini have delayed progress

Exhaust pack now completed, with the addition of a tight 180 bend for a chrry bomb second silencer. All done as tight as possible to keep it discrete and hidden.

Think i'm the only one that just doesn't get that 911. Great work gone into the Covin, I think we chatted over some chips and coffee on a free car driving day a few months ago.

As my Range Rover sold on Friday, the Covin is now insured for the road, so all it needs is a MoT. That's means: - sort bonnet release - fix bad NSF indicator connection - attach rear decklid rubber hooks and bolt on decklid and grill - swap out brake master cylinder - attach front and rear numberplates - wire up rear numberplate light. - strap down the battery -fit throttle body - fit throttle pedal - fit wing mirrors
