I don't like it,i just don't get it it looks like 2 square boxes with a bmw engine stuck on the front and 4 wheels stuck on the side abit like how a 5 year old might draw a car.
but iam sure theres a lot of skill and fabricating gone into it and just getting that engine to run would take more skill than I have and I am glad that there are people around to build stuff like this.

I think the stanceworks pictures do work wonders for it. It looks plainer here: Can't really put my finger on it, but it doesn't say wow to me at first glance. Although all the ingredients are there (stance. proportions) And I don't think that bigger rear tyres will solve that. This one as an example does do the trick of failing me in love with it, instantly: Well, somebody is having fun with it and it isn't me.

I love it , it harks back to a different time in car rodding , Not being funny but just about every modded car now has wide wheels and uber low suspension including mine ive got to say . We seem to be just copying each other . Its great to see something radically different even if its not to everyones taste .

I wouldn't say it's radically different. Apart from the wheels it's pretty much the same as other rat rods - inappropriate age engine in a faux-nostalgia styled car.
I can't believe he hasn't made a huge kidney bean grille insert.

Well, he built it, which is more than I've done! I do like it though, quite a bit despite me not being at all keen on BBS wheels. I also see the idea behind shiny modern engine in old patina encrusted body matched to er, matching wheels. Please Mr Burroughs, built it again but this time with shiny paint, just so we can compare

Saw some pictures of it on Facebook a few days ago, I thought "that's different" Now I know Mr Burroughs built it, it all makes perfect sense. The pictures I saw on FB:

In what way is it "refreshing"?
It's a look that is almost dated it has been done so often now. There's even a tot rod on the theme. And it's better looking than this.
I've thought for a wee while that Mr. Burroughs is the emperor and I'm the only one who can see that he is, in fact, bollock naked.

Okay so actually I'm not a massive fan of this car, I hated it at first but the more I look the more I like it. In fact those tail lights are inspired. The thing I really don't like is that just because of who built it, people talk him down for building it. It's "refreshing" because whether you believe it or not, it's actually different. Have a look at the modified car scene, EVERYTHING is the same formulaic, regurgitated mod-by-numbers fodder. It's difficult to find anything new these days. Personally deriding someone for building a car that you don't like is a bit much. The guy has built some amazing cars whether you like them or not. The best part about this one is that he doesn't need anyone's approval, he's built it for himself. If you watch the video I posted you can see he is enjoying it. Don't take this the wrong way, but I'd be interested in seeing the game-changing cars that you have built. If you haven't yet then hopefully your dislike for him/this car can inspire you to do so. Sorry if I've gone off on one there, I've had a few drinks this evening but I feel like I had to stick up for the guy a bit - something I've never done before.

It doesn't sit right for me. Not sure what it is about it, but it looks ma bit awkward. Maybe if it wasn't a pickup, it would work better for my brain. Top marks thoughh. Love the modern rims and engine. Just needs to gel a bit better

?................. If you had bothered to think about what I said, you'd have realised that I am not deriding the guy who built it, who is obviously tremendously talented, but the hordes who thoughtlessly, blindly think it is fabulous solely because he built it. It is a Mike Burroughs car therefore it is great. No. It isnt. It is ridiculous. He has done at least one superb version of an iconic modified car. His E9 was also pretty much spot on. That doesn't make him infallible. Robert de Niro has been in a couple of rank films. I'm into old cars full stop. Not necessarily modified ones. I was about long enough ago to have the flat cap brigade tut at the 1275 A series in my Minor. Nowadays the classic car snobs are more often the inverted snobs of the modified car scene, rather than the traditional picnic basket concours ones.

It is a Mike Burroughs car therefore it is great. As far as I can tell, no one in this thread has mentioned that or follows this mentality. I wrote "refreshing" in the description to describe how different this is to come out of the Stanceworks stable. It's one persons sole effort into building their first Rod, not an easy task - even without being judged by everyone when you're finished. Everyone should build cars for themselves instead of being sheep. So you've seen plenty of cooler Rods done better? That's great! Make a thread

Don't take this the wrong way etc etc Sorry if I've gone off on one there, I've had a few drinks this eveningIf you had bothered to think about what I said Well now that I look at it sober, I can see your dislike for Mr. B. was only implied. Although maybe you should bother to read the M.O?Also by the way cars that are ridiculous are brilliant (you could even say refreshing).

It is a Mike Burroughs car therefore it is great. No. It isnt. It is ridiculous. Not again! Where does this fiction come from? Please don't bother us with this fight against your imagination. Why does any Mike Burroughs related thread end up with some deranged fool thinking this 'everybody loves Mike Burroughs' nonsense? We're talking about cars and giving respect to the people who build them and you're talking about...well, I don't know what your talking about but it's nothing to do with what actually happens on Retro-Rides. Don't like the car? Fine. Don't say anything about it. Feel the need to put the world straight about their love for anything Mike Burroughs? Call a doctor.

Very good. Choose the second but ignore the first.
The "no negativity" rule on here definitely works to make it a very harmonious and enjoyable place to hang out.
But sometimes it is very limiting and frustrating.
Just every now and then we could do with a good old 15 page bitchfest!

Make your own forum and then ruin that with your bitching. We're not interested.

Nobody is bitching but you.
The bitchfest comment was jocular.

I hate banning people. But you are missing the point so massively that I can't be bothered explaining anymore. I'm sure you'll rejoice to be finally free of my lack of humour, up-myself-ness and the entire forum's Mike Burroughs obsession.
