Righto, I've had a discussion with the mother about getting a p5 as a daily for her and to hussle her clients around in. I have even found the starting car, that un posted in the ebay thread. I have been scowering google and the OC for pics of any non-standard P5's and I cant find any. Would anyone have any cool P5 pics, coupe or saloon. I've got the mechanicals of it all planned out, using a range rover 4.6 with the slushbox and all the modcons from the rangey. But the looks I haven't planned out. Could someone have a lil rough play about with that? Perhaps some stick action, tints, some VIP style wheels. I just need some ideas to make it look smart and subtle. Come on peeps chuck some ideas into the melting pot. Thankoo.

Please say it'll be a 'coupe if you're going to do it....... Sounds like a great project but why the 4.6? How's the car going to be driven? If it's as a daily driver I'd consider avoiding the 4.6 due to consumption and liner issues and get a 3.9 or maybe a 4.0 instead......The 3.5s and 3.9s rev much better than the larger displacement units as well due to shorter stroke. Also - using a less powerful engine such as the 4.6 - whilst not as "fun", means the shell & drivetrain don't have to sustain such a pounding and as a result the car will be more safe & reliable Would a mint P5B, possibly on EFi, with brake & steering upgrades not suffice? I'm not wanting to widdle on anyone's chips, just asking! ;D What bits from the Rangey do you intend to use?

Liking a totally early P5 tbh. Planning to use the engine, box from the rangey and then ponder how to upgrade the prop and axle to cope. But it won't be me doing it thankfully as I don't have the time, and it needs to be a reliable daily.
The fuel costs aren't really an issue as it would be earning it's money. I was pondering a 3.9 but no offence the mother wants something properly quick, her reasoning beeing that she could just get an S320 for the ammount this lot will cost to put together.

Hell no offence taken, was only asking! If someone wants something fast then it's justified, if it was just going to be an A to B motorway car then the criteria change somewhat If she likes the saloon then that's fine too! Why buy something you don't like....... The P5's got a fairly hefty rear axle but I don't know what kind of torque it can take in constant useage. However, as it's a live one the possiblity exists to swap in something uprated of similar track, such a a Hilux axle (I think non-LSD would probably be best for this application, or a viscous unit). This can be done by grinding the location points off the rover axle and re-welding them to the new one. A hilux axle might be a bit wide tho, Rover rear track is 56.501 in and Hilux is......59.4. I guess it depends on offsets and arches A Panhard rod off something would help stabilise it as well, along with some excellent shocks & springs, AVO preferably if they do them (not Spaz). Oh and some big f'off discs on the front, original drums will suffice on the rear (or whatever donor provision exists) And a new master cylinder/sevo if required too. You'll be needing power steering mind - It was only standard on P5Bs and optional on the earlier ones, so if need be you can source the appropriate bits, otherwise this thing is going to be quite tiring on the arms with wide, large tyres and a big old heft of alloy out front! ;D

Howabout buying the part finished one down at Burnham Autos? Its already been set up with Jag front rack, wishbones and big vented discs & 4 pots, rear is a 9" Ford IIRC and was being set up to take a "built" small block Chevy although this is not included in the sale. Search the site for P5 / Burnham Autos or go find the Burnham autos web site and I'm sure they'll put you in touch as IIRC the car is still down there with them.

Used to see one about in Brum when I lived there. Had the only mod I'd personally consider necessary - one big fat exhaust!! Sounded terrific.
Last time I saw it, it was decidedly rat-look. Wonder if it is still going?

Thanks. Possibly thinking of just banding the original steels with original hubcaps. Shall see when I get it.
