Well after CR500DOM and others contributions, here is a slight dilema again. I have been looking for the "Right" Car for a few months now, and have a big woody for Pickup trucks, regardless of age. I have always also liked smaller cars,so POLO coupe and wagon models from Mk1,2 and 3 series. Likewise BMW CS's the estates and 2002's.... the list goes on, and I have owned Datsun 140Y, VW Beetle 59 and 63, and Anglia '67 etc. So my loyalty does not get driven by any one brand or model , but some do make me go OOOooffff .. ! I also am in a position where I have a reasonable budget, ability, small skill and enough enthusiasm, to make a project work for myself and maybe others, though I would believe one builds, modifies a car for yourself. I have found a car that does me the OOOOoooffff thing, has "Patina" (how I hate that word and the scene tax it comes with) Priced at £4650.00 with still a load to do, it is at the extreme opposite end of where I am also comfortable, which is the £150 Polo's and £300 BMW,Mercs etc. I think it could satisfy my RR's needs, and also in the long term become a restoration project, while sort of sustaining and maintaining the value of the money I would pour into its not so big bore Exhaust. What are the panels views on the car in question........ 1965 LHD California import Porsche 912 , which for those who do not know, comes with a simple 1.6 4 cylinder flat four, and 5 speed gearbox. Is it worth the time , effort and cost it will undoubtedly drain from me and my limited cheque book? Pics: Crossmember has already been replaced, floor panels need replacing, but are supplied.

Sort of like the 911 in its purest form.
It`d be good cos people would say "wow, old 911, nice car" and you`d go "ahhhh, no its actually a 912" and they`d go "912? never knew they did one of those" etc etc and you`d have a right old talking point.

Personaly, I do like the "patina" it is sort of a license to actually enjoy the car and to just drive it regular like. WRT power and 6 vs 4 pot, Hmmmm, I always did say I wanted a project/toy,RR car to bring at least 150bhp to the table. However, havin had 1200 , 1500 cc's in old cars, I guess I am able to switch to granny mode occasionaly. Choices, choices.....

Isn't that a bad point? I mean I love people taking an interest in my cars, but when you get to "aaah, it's like a 911 but with a 1.6 engine" and they go "really? My fiesta has one of those" it might be a bit of a letdown

Lovely patina's car. You could drive it for a while as is and enjoy the relative economy and keep your eye out for an unorthodox engine later to annoy the purists - Subaru Impreza? Subaru boxer diesel even ;D

^^ "really? My fiesta has one of those" it might be a bit of a letdown" (sorry, don't know how to quote properly - it was pillock what said it!)
Depends on whether you tell you them it means its a 1.6...If youre trying to get off with some save the planet bird then you come clean and says its a nice environmentally friendly Porsche unlike those gas guzzler 911s, if its a gang of hard lads then of course its called a 912 because its more powerful than any 911 ever made, then just try and make sure they`ve gone before you start it up.

Great car But seems a tad expensive, considering the amount of work to do Would you not be better off spending a little more,on a more solid one? Gotta agree with CR500Dom on the power thing. I think you would quickly get frustrated by the lack of grunt. After all Porsche's are about performance........................

By the way what the hell is the LT35 decked out as a Carrera all about? Wanted a Carrera but wasnt happy with the bootspace? Prolly, about wild dreams and fantasies, as well as pushing the envelope. I love all things automotive, and that will be cool without attracting the absolutely ludicrous SCENE TAX associated with other underpowered, overaged Splitties etc (which I like as well) Look at the cost of a Commer Camper vs VW Camper of similar vintage. Think novelty, and not being another lemming charging down the same avenue of similarity. Anyhow..... Greatest atribute of this site to me is the huge range of individuality and tastes catered for. (Oh, and I think of the LT more in the line of building an OOoofff worthy camper with looks to confuse) ;D
