Alright guys, how's it going? Some of you already know what's happened, but for those of you who don't; read this... www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=27677In short, I got very, very lucky courtesy of Pistonheads and Flux and am now the proud owner of a lovely 3.0 S Capri. I did a little write up which should tell you all you really need to know, but there's plenty more photos that didn't make it online which I'm sure my brothers and sisters here at RR would appreciate seeing... As per the write up, you can do this with a Pug 306; And now for some car porn; So there you have it! That's what some tax and nearly £200 in fuel has got me ;D '79 3.0 S Mountain of paperwork, 'though not been on the road since 2002 Fishnet Recaros (I need a driver's side one if anyone sees one about, have two passenger ones at the moment!) 3.0 Essex with Janspeeds and tubular Manifolds Compomotives which are going to need a new home soon. All in, it's a pretty sound, honest car which is currently living up to be exactly what I hoped it would be. Pretty damn solid shell, several different blacks with replacement wings and some interesting trim, but it's exactly what I was after. Plan is to treat it to some serious time in the body shop and eventually drop a 2.9 Cosworth in. For now though I'm just going to enjoy it for what it is and slowly collect the parts needed for the next step in it's life. Opinions seem to be divided on the X-Pack route, but I've always wanted one and hopefully this'll be one of the best around when it's done. Major updates will be on Pistonheads first, but I wanted to share it with you guys too. I'll probably be in here lost and confused seeking advice too! Big thanks again to Dave for looking it over for me! Cheers

CRIPES... This is my dream car, I've lusted after a 3-litre S ever since seeing one on The Professionals when I was a nipper! I actually saw this one for sale on 'Capri Power' and was tempted myself but funds were not so good at that juncture!!! I am going to be watching this thread so darn closely...

Amazing motor! Well done mate! I had a '79 3 litre Ghia, AON 291T many years ago, beat the 2.8i in a straight line, but not too good on the bends. Loved it though. Raced it at the Pod a few times, only sold it to buy a '78 Camaro. That engine bay shot brings back loads of happy memories. Chris Warr.

I then wanted to start cleaning the interior as it stinks of wood (the material not the smell of a boner) best quote ever!

Even in pics that looks very straight. Nice find. Red rims on the gauges are worth extra 10 bhp

Lovely car mate always loved the 3.0s a better car than a 2.8 especially with those seats and as for all the bad handling comments i had two 3.0s and as long as they are set up ok they are fine i used to get a front wheel of the floor through a corner without loosing the rear end ! Ive just bought a solid 1.6ls 1983 thats only done 29k looks a mess at first but never had top plates or any welding, not sure what to do with it yet As for your one don't listen to others just do what turns you on its your car and i think the x pack looks great or even a zackspeed

Haha, yeah! that was the most important part of dad's, had probably the most sorted suspension set up ever seen on a Capri. Bilstein coilovers up front, RS single leaf rear springs, really stiff dampers, anti-dive kit etc - being wide as hell must've helped too! Cheers for all the comments, i am far too excited for this!

No worries mate! Cheers again for helping out, i don't think it'd be with me now if it weren't for your help. You got lucky staying in too, the editor cut out a few worthy mentions of people but you survived I'm sure i'll be in touch about "stuff" in future, too. Sorting myself some legit insurance next week, cannot wait...

So I've been taking care of the little bits and pieces recently, as well as using this as my new almost-daily. Dear lord it's fun! Watching the fuel gauge drop just from a trip to Asda however, is not so much fun Anyway, introduced little to large; Bernard's now living in the yard, the agreement was that the Capri was gonna be kept inside under cover, and my mate's been burning around in it and letting other people drive it without asking me, then leaving it in the yard absolutely filthy dirty. Not quite what I signed up for! Capri's now at Uni with me, tucked up in the underground car park. Anyway... Pulled off the door card to see some GR9 water/sound/mongproofing Found the problem when I took the old one off... Spent literally an hour getting the adjuster back through - has to go around the door frame then back on itself, then through a little hole in the inner door skin. Only access to it is a speaker hole at the bottom, so ingenuity with some rubber pipe won out in the end. Bueno! Genuinely really proud of myself for doing that, I could change a mirror in under a minute on the landy so having to go through all that on this was quite rewarding - and the window still rolls all the way up! I fixed the sunroof headlining too, despite being told by every man and his dog this was an impossible task. Slides back and everything! Finally, I need some help with this badman. The radio doesn't work, which is really annoying. It's a Kenwood KRC-558R which seems like quite a big deal in Poland, but that's not very helpful for an English-speaking me. I guess this has something to do with this wire not going anywhere? If anyone knows where it's supposed to attach to, please let me know! It's clearly got a live feed to it as it's taunting me with this little light flashing... Then again, I think the light might just be telling me it's f'd and that I need to go and buy a new head unit EDIT: thinking about it, this head's supposed to have a CD changer in the boot or something, i guess that's what the blue wire's for, maybe? Either way, it's probably gonna be easier to just stick a new, known working one in. Anyone got any ideas for a nice, simple, kinda retro-looking head?

Nice car! That loose blue wire is probably just a remote wire, so a 12v signal from the head unit for a power antenna or amplifier or something like that. It shouldn't stop the radio from working if it's disconnected. The red light is an 'anti-theft' effort, it just flashes when the faceplate of the stereo is removed.

Cool, i guess it's pretty safe to assume the head unit's dead then? It all seems to be connected up right and definitely has power, just doesn't give a curse word about turning on. Shame, 'cos it looks quite cool.
Does anyone know of any simple/ retro looking heads about? Or have something a little on the old side that needs a new home?
