Wonder what happened to the black PA Cresta in the video for Ghosttown by the Specials - it would have been 20 odd years old at the time so someone was probably looking after it but I wonder if its survived the intervening years? That video made me want one ever since.
I don't get why the price difference between old Fords and Vauxhalls, 6 and two threes as far as looks and performance I reckon, Vauxhalls have got plenty of motorsport heritage just like Ford, and I would have thought good spares back up, I went to the Vauxhall main dealer a year ago and they had brochures on the stand for dealer fitted bodykits for the Manta and Monza!
So why is a mint Ventora £750 while a mint Mk3 Cortina is £3500? (I might be a bit out with these prices but you get what I mean) Even though I suppose if anything I am a Ford man I would be stuck to choose between the two.

beacuse people see Classic Ford, Retro Ford, and everyone keeps on about Fords like they are the only real retro option. Its mainstream opinion which does the price difference.

Take a look at these and tell me Vauxhal/Opels rot ...... This is a 1979 UK Car You show me the equivalent escort or Cortina floorpans and sills I still really want a MK1 Escort but when I look at my 2 dr Kadett shell and think how much it would cost to get a Mk1 shell in the same condition I am not so worried.... ;D The Kadett will be rolling along with 200+hp and fully sorted for less than the cost of the Bare escort shell ;D As Alistair said, the metal is good to start with and apart from a couple of Mud Traps they tend to be very solid.... That HB is superb HTH Dom

Hmm. Compare and contrast that with my '76 Kadett! 'Fishermans' and 'Bucket' are suitable words to use in it's description. Must bunk off early to get some pics.

The temptation is too great. After reading up on Viscounts I'm going to go have a look at that one on ebay.

The temptation is too great. After reading up on Viscounts I'm going to go have a look at that one on ebay. It think I'm about to do something really stupid and buy that Viscount - and it's all Retro Rides fault because if I hadn't looked at this thread I'd never have got Vauxhalls on the brain and gone snooping on ebay. The car is very solid and has never been welded. It has a small hole in one sill, a some pitting and a small hole in the bootlid, and the off side front wing is a mess. Other than that, it is completely solid. The interior is generally good, except for the carpet and the seals - the carpet is soaking wet (I did poke around under it and the floor still seems to be solid - still has the original paint on it. I spoke to the guy who is selling it. He hasn't had it running but the motor isn't seized. It looks like it would need a good service, the brakes redone, new tires, the sill patched and the wing replaced to get it through an MOT. You know that Holden got 190HP out of these engines in their race car Toranas. Hehe. This car is calling my name... is there anyone else on here who wants it more than me because I can't bear the thought of this car getting bangered. This is what I like to find when I check a boot floor. Original paint and no rust. Anyone have a fender for one of these? This is the worst bit. The body structure is as sound as when it left the factory.

On second thought, maybe I won't be buying the Vauxhall. I just checked the auction and it seems like there is an aweful lot of insterest in the car. Well, at least it isn't likely to go to the banger boys.

Buy a vauxhall.....makes a pleasant change from the repeated fords all over the roads (no offence to the ford guys, just proves ford's popularity).....i've owned the magnum for ages now and everytime i see it i grin like a doped up institute patient. I even prefer it more than my Triumph GT6 (and it is a sexy little car!). Something strong looking about a big boxy vauxhall! Go on, buy one!

Theres a mint one near me, been on eBay a couple of times, for sale less engine. IIRC he wants £450 for it but that seems optomistic with the engine missing. Try him maybe about £300. Does't even need painting apparently.
