1995 e34 540i, 6-speed manual, LPG, 10 months MOT.
This car does 40mpg, produces (a dyno proven) 285bhp from a v8 through a 6 speed manual box to the rear wheels and is bullet proof. Think that sells itself to be honest...... but more details anyway lol:-
I've had this car for 4 years and have done approx 65,000 miles in it and I can honestly say it's been an absolute gem. Used it pretty much every single day and it's never let me down and it's still in daily use now (75 mile a day commute). It's a standard 540i with the exception of:-
-LPG system, 85L tank in the boot,
-Rear powerflex bushes,
-Rear 20mm anti-roll bar (ordered new from BMW Germany, comes from special nurburgring edition M5),
-Custom made stainless steel exhaust, no CATs (not needed for MOT as you can run it on LPG ),
-Detachable tow bar (completely hidden when not fitted behind bumper panel) - The car has only towed a 460kg race car ONCE!,
-Spax lowering springs front and rear,
-Air-con/traction control removed,
-Osram night breaker headlight bulbs,
-Spring rate o-rings on the rear springs.
For those that don't know it an all alloy quad cam (on chains) 4 litre v8, this engine is epic - It had a bottom end rebuild at about 76k miles (receipts to prove) to cure the feared nikosil issue and it now has alusil bottom end, 166k miles in total (I bought it at 98k iirc). I compression tested this engine a couple of years after owning just out of interest and it made maximium compression on all 8 cylinders (each one identical) - I couldn't believe it, it's worn in perfectly. It makes 285bhp (dyno proven) and sounds asolutely fantastic! This car's got loads and loads of life left in it.
This version has the VERY sought after Getrag 6 speed manual which also works perfectly - I recently changed the gearbox oil, these boxes fetch £6-700 as they are the same box which is used in the later e34 M5's and also the 400bhp e39 M5's, they as renowned for being able to handle much more power so pretty unstressed in a e34 540. All the brakes have been fully refurbed - no mucking about cleaning them up etc, all replaced.
LPG system, 85L tank in the boot,
Rear powerflex bushes,
Rear 20mm anti-roll bar (ordered new from BMW Germany, comes from special nurburgring edition M5),
Custom made stainless steel exhaust, no CATs (not needed for MOT as you can run it on LPG ),
Detachable tow bar (completely hidden when not fitted behind removable bumper panel) - The car has only towed ONCE!,
Spax lowering springs front and rear,
Air-con/traction control removed,
Spring rate o-rings on the rear springs (can be removed if you want it lower).
Other new parts fitted in my ownership:-
Front brakes - new disks, pads, brake lines, professionally and fully refurbed calipers (this year),
Rear brakes - new pads, new disks, new calipers (this year),
New tyres (this year),
New radiator,
New starter motor,
New rad hoses,
Various copper lines - brakes and fuel,
Vast majority if not all bushes at the front (none of the famous e34 shimmy here, totally solid),
Cam cover gaskets,
Sump gasket,
Brake fluid change,
Front wheel bearings (entire hub replaced with new),
Droplinks,
Replacement steering wheel,
Handbrake drum components.
Clutch and LPG ECU replaced by previous owner. All required servicing always done, good oil used etc.
The history that comes with this car is totally crazy, it's a large ring binder bursting at the seams - Contains everything you can imagine. Spare key, toolbox only missing one item, first aid kit.
This car drives bang on but has been used as a workhorse and as such the exterior is tatty with a dent next the indicator on the LHS front wing (shown in pic), a crack in the rear bumper (shown in pics) and a scrape/damage on the rear right door/arch (shown in pic). The rear tailgate is rusty and there's a spot at the bottom of one or two of the doors but apart from that it's solid, very, very good for its age. The interior's pretty messy, it's been out and in and is largely complete but not perfect and is missing parts, and also the carpet is not in, it has full large mats instead and you don't really notice unless you're looking.
The remote locking stopped working, could just be the remote battery but I've never investigated, just disconnected the siren and now use the key, the indicators flash for 25 seconds when you get in though which is annoying.
That's about it I think, it runs a bit better in petrol than in LPG (it made 260bhp on dyno in LPG mode compared to 285 on petrol) and the idle in LPG's a bit guff compared to the petrol, by no means bad though - just not as good as the petrol.
So in summary a superb running car, total sleeper as even the stainless exhaust was made to look like standard at the tail pipe.

Front Calipers:-
Also this car is piled up with extras, all the good sought after stuff, electric leather/armrests loads of stuff I can't be bother listing it all.
I will be very sad to let this go, I think it's the best car I've ever owned but I now need an estate tow car as although this car has a tow bar I run a race car and all the spares/tools/spare wheels etc are just too tight a fit hence it only being used once. So would part-ex for a rwd tow car.
I'm putting this up for a realistic £1,700 (no offers), that'll probably make it the cheapest e34 540 manual in the country by a fair margin I'd imagine but it is tatty so I have allowed for that. It doesn't include the tax unless you want to buy it seperately and the head unit doesn't go with the car either. The price isn't negotiable, I'm not taking less than that I'll just work out a way to store it if it comes to that. Remember most e34's will not drive as well as this, perfect brakes, suspension and engine/box.
Contact through PM please and I'll give you my number, no time wasters, any inspection welcome though - just want it gone or it stays.
Dunc.
