Well, what can I say? Honda and Rover at a point in time, went through a stage of sharing chassis' and engines. Most people buy Rover 25's or 214's because they are fitted with the Honda engine and not the widely known Rover engine where the headgaskets need changing at 30k miles! I mean come on - how can they possibly produce a car where the headgaskets need changing at 30k miles. Ridiculous but then I suppose that may have some bearing on where they are today.........err... ok we won't go there lol!
Anyway, this Rover sports the Honda engine and automatic gearbox. Both are in great condition and run smoothly. The 'sports' function kicking in fine on the auto-box too. Not much to say about them really, they are reliable, use virtually no oil or water, never go wrong and by simply ensuring routine maintenance is kept up will last you another 20 years! Anyone with a J car will tell you how reliable they are...
The car also benefits from having a full service history stamped up in the book - again driving this car will instantly back this up too - I.e you can tell it has been looked after
It pulls like an absolute train and rides nice too. If I were to try and describe this car to someone, I would say it has the reliability of Honda and the comfort of a Jaguar. It just wofts along soaking up potholes that may lay in its way! 80mph feels like 50mph and I think this is because the Sterling's are so well sound proofed, there is virtually no wind noise whatsoever.
The car has covered 119k miles and was serviced at 115k. If you think about it, over the years with it being a 1993/94 car (K Reg) in the 19/20 years it has only covered 119k miles. My 2003 Passat TDi is approaching 275k miles! Anyway, that works out to be about 5,900(ish) miles per year! They say the average is between 12k and 14k miles per year so well below average mileage.
Exterior –
The car is a 1993 plate car and so generally is pretty tidy. There are a few marks/scratches/battle scars on the car but overall the bodywork is good - nothing major by any stretch. It looks great too in the silver/grey metallic colour and the alloys have been treated with an anti-brake dust coating to repel road tar and brake dust thus making it easier to wash off when cleaning. Have a look at the pictures and just see how clean the alloys come up!
The tyres are very good. I believe shortly before me purchasing, one of the front tyres was replaced as was at the limit. The car drives straight and does not pull to the left or right - tracking also done in last 5k.
Interior –
Interior is clean and hoovers up very well - (again see pictures). Full leather inside with heated seats I believe - all of which work. It really is similar to that of a Jaguar and feels very plush! It is fully loaded for a 1993 car with cruise control, traction control etc.
No interior trim falling apart either, no rips, no tears. Interior shows very little signs of wear, but then again the mileage is also low so hasn't had a hard life at all!
All electrics work as does the air con (which blows nice and cold) - doesn't smell stale either.
