Panda Matt, I know your first post was meant to be helpful (it was- very!) It didnt sound like you were complaining to me anyway.... I want to see it I want to see it!!!! Getting it on the weekend.... it could even be a sporting.. Probably a boggo standard 900cc one though. Ive found a sporting engine on egay but its just the block and head without any ancilleries, if the original engine is the 900 cc, will all the bits from that, starter, manifolds e.t.c fit the sporting lump?? Sorry for all the stupid questions. *edit* Oooh- would THIS fit? cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fiat-Punto-Sporting-engine-Mk-2_W0QQitemZ220083837157QQihZ012QQcategoryZ10382QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemI don't mind about bulging the bonnet ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I'm bloody tempted myself now after seeing this thread and the other one, what are they like reliability wise, as I'm pretty sure that fiat are supposed to be wibblepoo

wibblepoo reliabilty as far as ive heard. The couple that own this cinq would have repaired it as apparently its a pretty easy job but this was "the last straw"
I'm guessing it had a history of unreliability.

Right,
Had a 1998 Sporting as a daily driver and it was amazing. Had some apex springs fitted and would curse word off a load of people in bigger machinery of the twisty roads. Picked it up in scotland and drove it back to Newcastle and drove it down to Luton a few times no prob.
I used to visit fiatforum regularly too. So anyway, if its a 900, you'll need a load of stuff to swap another engine into it (from memory subframe or xmember, gearbox, linkage, wiring loom for a sporting...) and better off using a donor sporting.
If its a sporting, the 1242 8v Punto engine will drop straight in (need to shave a bit of the plastic cam sproket cover and fit 10mm spacer between manifold and downpipe) and will run of standard Cinq sporting ECU. only 60bhp (against 55) but a HELL of a lot more torque.

Had a few. To be honest I wouldnt bother trying to tune the 899cc car. The gearbox's are run on cables and are very weak. They die normally anyway. Also if you go fast and hit a slight bend it can be quite scary. The second you try and tune it it will eat them. The Sporting is the much better option as it has far better handling with better suspension geometry, the gearbox is stronger and the Fire engine out of the UNO/Panda is very tuneable and quick if done properly.

We had one a few years back before a tw@t in an ML re-shaped it ! No competition big 4x4 verses ikle city car = R.I.P Cinqu ! When it had'nt been bent it was brilliant ! loved it so much that i would have another NOW.Lowered it on AVO's and it handled very well plus i topped the ton mark on a nice straight, top car,go for it and enjoy cheap motoring.
