I've shifted the image to a new host so try that.
I am intrigued by the original advert; I've never seen that before. I did have a copy of the road test in Autocar but I can't find it now. The advert says Vauxhall AND Rover. I wonder what the Rover connection was. Perhaps they had plans for putting their V8 in there when the supply of Chevys dried up?

I think I might have the road test somewhere but it'll take months to find it... When I do I'll put it up

there was a south african firenza using the same engine called the can am, I know theres one in the country. I bet thats a right laugh ;D I'm sure that the Ranger (South Africa's own car - based on the FD with Opel rear lights) came with a V8 as an option to the normal straight 6s and 4s.... Want? Definitely!! Went to a local steam fair last saturday in the Viva and a SA guy came over and asked me if it was a V8. He said back home they had the 5.7ltr engines from the factory. Aparently his mate had one and they were great in straight lines but you had to be carefull. He ended up wrapping it round a tree as he got a bit excited with the go pedal. I thought he was making it up! I have to see one of these now.

This is such an epic thread - an obscure and unique car brought to out attention by Darren....then out of nowhere a previous owner (Mylesdw) arrives on the scene to fill in the blanks and give some lovely detail about the car. Retro Rides at its absolute best. The big question currently on my mind is.....who fancies trying to buy and restore the motor from Myles' friend in Oxfordshire? Surely something this unique deserves a chance? Would make an awesome build and something totally mind-blowing in rare build terms. Someone please do it....

I wish nobody had said that! But seriously, I would be interested in doing something with it (unless its a complete basket case). It certainly desrves to be saved. Would probably have to compromise on the dog leg ZF though! Mylesdw, do you know whether the car would be available for sale? And do you have anymore pics? Sean

Well if someone near Bristol was to buy it, this is one car I'd happily give up some space for down at Area 52. It just has to be saved.

Sean Unfortunately I don't think it's going to happen. The chap who owns it thinks it will be worth a fortune one day. It won't be; it is just interesting rather than valuable. I have put out some feelers to see if this is still the situation.

A chap I still know from my days in the owner's club has been in touch with him. Mike was under the misunderstanding that he was looking at the mortal remains of the automatic car not the manual one as we believed that the manual one had been turned into bean cans years ago. I think Mike then managed to lose the guy's phone number - d'oh.
I spent years trying to track this car down. Now its been found I'm oddly anticlimactic. I should be raging over there to make an offer and all, but I think I'm best letting someone else do that.
FWIW you could get a Ventora II on an H plate. I owned one and MartinC on here also had one on an H I'm sure. H was the change over between the I & II.

Let me know if he has a change of heart. Cheers Sean

I know I'll regret asking this but any idea how much he wants?
How rust-funked is it?
I could always sell something for this I guess...
