Operation 'TAB does Wörthersee' begins on May 4th with a ~1000 mile drive, 4-up and loaded with tents & supplies for the week. That's in 15 days time. My car currently looks like this: To summarise the state of play, it currently has: - No MoT - A newly fitted engine, that I have driven once but only about 50yards cos all 4 tyres are rubbing on the arches - bought from a stranger - A newly fitted gearbox... see above - bought from a different stranger - All 4 tyres rubbing on the arches - All running gear / brakes / shafts, etc replaced for a combination of bits off different cars (mix of S2 & A4 mainly) all completely untested - Hardly any interior - got as far as fitting the new dash, carpet & drivers seat - A mixture of knackered original paint, & replaced bits in different colours - A dented / rusty arch following a minor shunt (PO) - A cracked windscreen (which may or may not pass the MoT - I'm playing the fit smaller wipers fandango) So, the 'To Do List': - MoT (booked for tomorrow morning - gonna be a late night tonight!) - Weld a replacement arch in (booked in for tomorrow afternoon - run out of time to do it myself) - Test drive - fix any snags - Refit entire interior - Get a windscreen fitted (on insurance) if it fails the MoT - Strip exterior for paint, paint it, put everything back together - & probably a zillion other 'little things' which will end up taking ages.. Will we get it done in time? Will we have to cram ourselves into ColonElks Cavalier instead? Will it brake down & leave us stranded somewhere in the middle of Germany? IS THIS A GOOD IDEA? Prace bets naow!

It looks like the rusted arch could be sorted by the rubbing tyre eventually, cross that off your list! I love epic hastily-prepared road-trips, thread bookmarked.

It's all of the good ideas, however it will pale in significance compared with Operation Malteaser.

Good plan.
If it all goes pear shaped; just drag it somewhere, take a photo, forward to Darren W (with apropriate transaction-smoother) and have him insert it innocently in his next Worthsee thread, along with 'slammed 80 avant on Merc rims' type tag.

Sitting comfortably? Ok, here comes the backstory.. So I decided I wanted an Audi 80 Avant TDi in white absolutely ages ago - it's hilarious how old that thread is. I looked for quite a while, some kind people went and viewed a couple for me (I can't actually remember the details now) before I finally took the plunge and bought an Audi 80 Avant 2l petrol in red. Erm.. What happened there then? Well, it was this one.. It was pretty cheap, had very expensive coilovers & nice wheels (16x9 J's wide Borbet T's) on it, and looked badass. Late May 2011 that was. I had a lot of fun with that car - wound the coilovers all the way down and drove it daily, smashing into everything. I once showered ColonElk in sparks by ripping the exhaust off on a line of catseyes Good times Here's a rubbish phone pic of it stuck in a puddle; one of 2 times I got it completely beached.. & how you get a car with no side repeaters through an MoT.. It also ate its tyres from time to time (from either arch rubbing, or in this case where the wheels are so wide the track rod end actually sat in the space vacated by the tyre stretch, so a puncture & deflation caused it to chew it to bits in the time it takes to pull onto the hard shoulder) 215/40's on wheels that are 9 J's wide.. ;D It had had a rather groovy custom re-trim by the PO (which I LOVE - will be doing something similarish on Audizzle) Annoyingly that's the only pic I can find of the trim - heck knows what's going on behind me! That appears to be GTV Saviour racing ColonElk with a trailer on the back (RRG 2011 Y0!) - more good times It was also used on one of our StealthCamp(TM) adventures.. Writing this is making me reminisce - so many good times More in a bit.. (in which I actually buy a white one)

I've hit F5 at least 5 times now and the "more" you promised has not appeared. Please rectify this matter or I shall be forced to lodge a formal complaint with your Mum. Which is not the only thing I'll be lodging.

Ok, very quickly then, just to get this vaguely up to date before Audiz is back on the road.. Sept 2011, I found what looked to be the ideal 80 Avant TDi in white (I think it was on eBay, can't remember), and the owner had a nearly complete 2nd car for spares Unfortunately they were on the far side of Wales - there's a write-up of the silliness involved in getting them back in our StealthCamp(TM) threadCouple of pics: And back at TAB.. I then set about swapping the coilovers off the Red one (which was then sold to someone on here, and is apparently still going strong ) Looks like my Granada, lulz Fronts: Rears: Much shorter ;D And raping anything of use from the scrapper, including lopping off a rear arch - more on that later Before filling it with scrap & bridging it (did about £170, waaay more than it owed) The Audizle then looked a bit like this: & was then pressed straight into daily service, involving lots of this: Hauling curse word about, etc.. The perfect daily I always thought it would be 55+ mpg on 95p/litre veg oil. Drove it pretty much every day, thousands of miles, until about June 2012. Next up, Audiz goes boom, then I get carried away with the mods.. ps. Tonight we did this, and the MoT is tomorrow morning..
