Previously just saw these as sources of V6 engines for projects I will never get round to doing but I am actually warming to their amazingly ugly looks. Insurance is reasonable, even for the 24V motor. Didn't realize they also came with a 2.3 engine, any info on this motor? Better mpg than the V6 and same sort of output to the V6 12 valve. Found some info here: www.fordscorpio.co.uk/

My mate's had a mint (and I mean mint) dark green metallic 97P 2.3 auto for about 12 months now, it's not very quick and not that good on fuel........he absolutely loves it though. Loads of toys, amazing comfort and eats the miles.
Best thing about them is that they are so ugly they have character......and because no-one wants them, he only paid £500 for it :-)

don't know where the ugly thing comes from myself - distinctive yeah but it all works and its in proportion I reckon they're pretty stylish. Owning one is a bit like having a giant Mk5 Escort - same clunky bottom arm bushes and alarm periodically going off for no reason whatsoever.
Get one, you wont regret it, they're fantastic to drive and as an added bonus everyone who isnt into cars will call it either a drug dealer chariot or a pimpmobile.

Getting very tempted by these but the wife isn't too overjoyed with the idea. I'll probably run the 1303 over summer but a scorpio could be a good winter ride. Looking at parkers a 2.3 is 144bhp and 29/31 mpg (auto/man) a 2.9 12V is 147bhp and 25mpg 2.9 24V is 204bhp and 25mpg
The 2.9 12V should have more torque than a 2.3 but then I got a quote for a 24V of £240 TPF&T so why go for the 12V anyway! I reckon they would look best kept smooth and simple.

Sorry if I cause offence but that is even more hideous! Although trick suspension is always cool.
Get rid of the front fogs/indicators, whap on some tail fins and then it'd be really, really hideous. And that WOULD make it cool!

No offence taken,if we were all the same it'd be dull Mine is a 2.0 16v manual and I get around 35mpg, I also owned a 2.0 auto, and the absolute bestest I got from it was 26mpg. Daily use saw no better than 20.6mpg..and it was embarrasingly slow. Seriously, driving it hard and I was getting burned off by micras... 12v v6 is not really any faster than 2.0 manual. 24v is fast, but suffer from dodgy autoboxes and camchain tensioners. You do get a lot of toys for your money though. My auto was an ultima and so had leather, memory seats, heated seats, electric seats, seperate air con for passenger and driver, electric windows and sunroof..oh and I paid £150 for it...

Didn't they do a 2.5 TurdoDiseasel as well??? Sure a guy at work had one in an estate, great if you're not in a hurry and have a mate who owns a chip shop :-)

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I love 'em! Seriously considering one when I need an estate..... much more car than a 325i Touring or a 80 Avant for ££££ less.
Heated-leather-electric-seatmobile for £150? That's the same cash as a 'big food shop' that is!

Never come across a diesel Scorpio, did have a Granada 2.5 TD a while back, 1995(M). No-one knew who made the engine but the words "italian" and "Iveco" were bandied about. Not anywhere near as slow as you might think, and still a nice drive, also the last Granadas before the Scorpio were good looking things in anyones book, look a bit like the late `80s Mustangs at the front I think.
Still find it strange why people think the Scorpio is ugly, though, its only a reskin of the earlier one, the shape isnt really any different, and the frog mouth is no more extreme than the Mk4 Fiesta or Mk7 Escort and they are if anything considered vaguely stylish if not a bit bland.

I think the very late ultimas are really good looking cars. Full fat luxury. The best are still expensive but the values are starting to tumble.
Pre frog-eye scorpio = fat sierra IMHO!

I would like a late granada diesel wagon. the old VM diesel engine in em is class, if a bit fond of head gaskets (it has one for each pot)!!! A big comfy cheap chugga, lovely job.
