My girlfriend bought me one of them 'red letter days' experiences. After a brows through the options i settled on this www.redletterdays.co.uk/Experience/Ref/ICNEDIve never raced anything, but always fancied banger racing and this looks pretty close, although I'm assuming slightly less contact. So, what can i expect? Anyone do this kind of thing? Cant wait, should be a right laugh ;D

Make sure you specify that you want a mondeo or vectra when you go and also make sure you only smash into Vectras and mondeos on the track or threr will be trouble!

If the pic is anything to go by there wont be any sallons at all. Its suposed to be 1300 stock cars so I'm guessing early base model hatch's.
If they give me anything good ill head for the exit and drive it home ;D

I saw this stock car day in a catalogue or something, to me it looked far better value than the 'proper' track days they also did. You're with other people doing the same thing, not in a race with regular drivers, and IIRC it's at Brafield in Northants? I think they've been doing something like that for a long time, I recall going maybe 10 years ago and seeing a shed full of similarly painted and armoured RWD Escort stock cars.
Stock car racing is not banger racing!

Yeah, i know its not banger racing, but its still contact on dirt oval.
This ones in birmingham, they also do 2L stock cars, but this is cheaper. It definately looked the most fun of the driving experineces. You have a few heat races then a final then a super final, about 35 laps.
I fully intend to win too, by any means! ;D

Ex-banger racer from many years ago... Looking at the pics, it looks like full contact stock cars - they've got metal work all the way round... I've never done this, but seen it at the Spedeworth stadiums, it'll be 'harder' than bangering, as when you hit something, that metal cage don't give, so all the momentum/energy will be transferred to you. With bangers, some of the momentum/energy goes into crumpling the car, so a follow-in won't hurt as much... IIRC a mate did something similar years ago, and it involved 1300 Metros which didn't move that fast, due to the half ton of metal welded round them... It should be a great laugh, you'll enjoy your day ;D You'll ache for the next coupla days too

That looks cool! I'd love to have a blast at that Stock Car malarkey. I think if I was banger racing though, I would find it very difficult to go tanking into some big 60's saloon and smash it up! ;D

Is the idea that contact doesnt matter, or that you'r allowed to push people out the way?

Is it my imagination or are they all RWD Starlets?
Starlets used to be very popular for stock racing, hot rods and other oval stuff. Dunno if they still are.

I would guess that it is full contact, going by the name 'Extreme Dodgems', and looking at the cars. General technique is a gentle nudge on a rear corner to spin your victim, you then over take grinning at him/her who is now facing the wrong way ;D Or, in other words, as you approach, you get your bonnet just ahead of their end, and steer gently left/rlght as appropriate. It takes a lot of skill, and was certainly above the level I got to, which was drive into everything with my right foot planted on the throttle... For ovals the technique for RWD is flat out in 2nd into the corner, throttle off, fling sideways, half-way round stomp on throttle, opposite lock out of the corner (and sometimes most of the way up the straight)... and repeat. Good fun ;D

Thats the same technique I'm planning on, just floor it and barge everyone out the way I don't know what the cars in the pic are, but there not all the same.

It wont be full contact, these are Stock cars not out and out bangers. Full contact means spinning opponents into the wall deliberately, pushing them flat out though the corner and into the wall, turning your car around and having a head on, hitting stationary cars, hard T-bones e.t.c. Banger racing is about damaging your rivals car, not so with Stock cars. Stock cars like this are semi-contact, pushing, spinning and general barging opponents out of the way is the name of the game. The cars are heavily armoured and are designed to take a fair bit of punishment without being damaged. As someone has already said they wont absorb an impact as much as a regular banger which has no armouring so if you do hit anyone hard it will hurt. A really heavy hit or an impact with the wall at speed could be very painful! Imagine two hammer heads hitting each other and bouncing off.
Never done the stock cars though, I'm sure youll have loads of fun. Birmingham in damp weather is VERY slippery! Brums a tarmac oval BTW and 1300 stock cars used to be nearly all RWD starlets. Not sure what the usual is now though.

IIRC there sre more & more nova's being used now as replacements for the Starlets, FWD & not as much fun (from what I'm told) but are a bit quicker. Fewer Starlets because of how hard it is to find body panels for them now. (can you tell I've been on oval racing forums )
