If you have the multi link front Dave the ball joints can wear when on its but other than that I had no real problems running Rizla low apart from the obvious that is. I have a set of TA Technicks on mine and a used set in the bunker and they run fine slightly firmer ride but the wife has never complained. FK are the same as TA's if the truth is known.. I have ran a Passat B5 for the last six year with no major problems they just keep on going mate..

Alternativly reach under the coolant header tank, find the steering rack with your fingers and have a feel for the drain hole gromit with your fingertips, just behind the rack and up a bit while laying face down on the engine cover, once located pull out with a short pair of long nose pliers. Cuts down the aforementioned job by about 95% of the time It's not jut about removing the plugs, the area gets clogged up with muck and leaves which blocks the holes even without the plugs. Good clean out sorts it though. Happy Passating, we've had our saloon version for three years. Apart from tyres and a couple of gaiters the only problem we've had was a faulty coil pack last year. You're quite right a full clean up is the best course of action if the scuttle is full of debris but I've never known one to block up with the bung removed and I've done hundreds of these, If I was going the battery removal route I'd also be removing the wipers and scuttle trim then taking out the pollen filter housing and replacing the seal with cold bond; that's what we always did if there was a water ingress issue but just on a service visit the bung removal was enough to prevent the issue in the first place.

I've looked into them cheap coilies and from what I can gather, they're all from the same factory - FK, JOM, Hot Tuning, TA Technik... so the best ones are the cheapest, whatever the brand!
IMHO they're designed to get you low on the cheap, so handling isn't going to be anything great. I've heard "harsh" and "bouncy" being used but others have said they're fine. Seeing as you've run chopped coils on stock dampers with minimal ground clearance before I reckon you'll have no bother with the ride! ;D

Well ilive out in the countryside and find them fine really, i think the ride is pretty good considering the price of them. Handling also is quite decent (well as decent as you can expect for a barge like a passat ha) the subframe rear mounts sit a little lower than everything else at the front of the car and these occasionally catch the road/speedbumps etc, seb

Another Passat TDI wagon owner here, I have had mine for about 3 months and i love it! Should be getting lower very soon and on the look out for different rims in my budget.

This was mine, TA teknix coilovers lowered on monoblock reps. Had it remapped to 170bhp when the local tuning place had a special offer on, best £200 I spent on it! Changed for an A6 now, but really wish I'd stayed with the passat tbh.

Depends on the wheels. The Passat uses M14 bolts and some Merc wheels are M12. You'll need longer bolts and spigot rings. I got mine from ebay for not a lot of money. I went for 45mm thread length so I can run a 10mm spacer on the back. Will bolt straight on after that. Merc wheels are generally much better offsets as well so really work well on the B5 chassis'
