Ive taken the plunge and decided to move away from my mercedes comfort zone. after a few months of looking and reading ive bought this   its a 130 tdi SE. so far I'm really happy with it. it may get some "treatment" in the future, but i want to sort a few things on my camper first. heres how it could look though.        feel free to post any pics as inspiration.  |

Nice, first bit of inspiration. Pop the bonnet, remove the full width cover over the battery that runs across the scuttle. Disconnect battery and lift out. Clean all the curse word out of that area, the drain holes and the water channel from the corner of the windscreen, past the bonnet hinge to the area under that cover. Rebuild safe in the knowledge that you won't get a flooded passenger footwell!  |

Its a known Passat B5.5 problem. The water channel from the windscreen corner to the drain holes under the battery get clogged, water then flows over the top of the pollen filter and down the passenger footwell carpet and under the seat to the ECU. Happened when we got ours, first day, car wash, wet feet. Did the above and been dry ever since.

Alternativly reach under the coolant header tank, find the steering rack with your fingers and have a feel for the drain hole gromit with your fingertips, just behind the rack and up a bit while laying face down on the engine cover, once located pull out with a short pair of long nose pliers. Cuts down the aforementioned job by about 95% of the time |

Nice b5.5 slamit with some merc monoblocks jobs done!
Good call with the drains don't want your ecu to drown.
Ive the V6 petrol 4 motion b5 great cars if a little sales rep.

part of the appeal of a passat was down to the bolt pattern. hmmm, where can i get a set of those? handily, theres a set at the bottom of my stairs. ;D they need tyres, and like i said i want to do a few things on my bus first, ready for summer, if we get one. thomas, i had been looking at A4s too, but for some reason the insurance was double that of the vw. cheers for the drain plug tip. I'm new to this water cooled VW malarky, I'm used to air coolers, so all help/ tips are greatfully recieved. |

Cuts down the aforementioned job by about 95% of the time It's not jut about removing the plugs, the area gets clogged up with muck and leaves which blocks the holes even without the plugs. Good clean out sorts it though. Happy Passating, we've had our saloon version for three years. Apart from tyres and a couple of gaiters the only problem we've had was a faulty coil pack last year. |

i like how that sits, rmad, very nice indeed. been checking out coilovers, they're surprisingly cheap. an extra friday night shift should sort those without dipping into the van fund. need tyres on the amg rims before they go on the car, or the 5 0 wont be happy. i must admit I'm really liking the car so far, i should have done it ages ago. |

They're good cars, I've only recently got mine. I'm thinking a hit of the lowering stick and some wheels are pretty much all they need. Mine needs some paint as someone let the rear washer leak into the tailgate so that has started to rust, can't make my mind up if I should roller it with the nato green paint I've already got or try something else.
