Hey all! My name is Anton, I'm from cold russian city St-Petersburg. Two years ago I got Chevy Van Beauville G30 1979, imported in Russian Federation in 2003. Custom fee for old american cars and trucks are VERY hight, so we have not too many vans here. I was lucky, and my van not too rusty - I'm really happy, because about 6 months in a year we have snow, and in Russia snow usually remove with using salt and very agressive chemical components, thats kill car's body in 4-5 years, after 8 years it's looks like rusty corps. Today I decided to represnt my ride here. My van looks: So, if you want to know my further adventures just let me know! Anton

I love reading about folk's adventures with old clunkers in far-off parts of the world. Brilliant! Keep us posted. Whats it like owning something like this in Russia? Do you get hassled by the police at all?

thanks for support, mates!
of course, it's not easy to rebuild such as this car in Russia, due to you can't import ride in good condition from US (in my case). No, you can do it, but you must pay TOO MUCH! For example, my van may costs in US something about 3000-5000$, if it's in really good shape, rust-free etc. Then shipping - about 1500-2000$, Custom fee - about 30 000$. And you may spend a lot of time with all these papers. My mate big fan of Chevy El Camino, he bring here some cars and it took a half year, I think. But it's more interresting to dig for cars, imported in USSR in 70's-90's. USSR history was terrible, in my opinion, but it gave us some experiance. Rides comes from years and cities, it's become not simple piece with 4 wheels)))
I pay +20% for each spare from Summit Racing, Rockauto or ebay, and +13$ per kg for express shipping (15-17 dyas), or 6$ per kg in case of normal shipping (about 2 months). Another problem - in US all comes in inches, and we are metric here)))

Wouldn't a crate motor be cheaper? About £1250 GBP ish here in UK.
