.....Dizzy - The Spi still had the shell of the dizzy with the rotor in.... why? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ..... Because there's 4 spark plugs and only one coil, the ECU tells it when to spark but it still needs a dizzy to make the spark go to the right plug ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I know, but surely it would have been stuff all work to put a Mpi style coil pack on and eradicate a well known problem. Found an annoying one with the A2. If you happen to touch the sterio whilst getting out of the car it turns on... but not instantly, it takes a few seconds to boot up, to by the time you've locked the car and are about to walk away it turns on..... stupid thing!

On the Metro, the instrument panel buttons for rear windscreen heater, heater controls, fog lights etc are obscured by the steering wheel depending on how far back you sit... The main 4 vents on the dash only give fresh air, warm air is only directed to the screen and feet. (design choice, not a fault! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) ![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/26/Rover_Metro_1.4_Li_Automatic_interior.jpg) Rover were ahead of their time though, while I no longer keep tapes in the lower 6-tape holder part, its the perfect size for the modern smart phone! Makes up for the lack of any cup holders! Also the rear boot lock you have to turn then push, although its easier to push while you try to turn and try to turn so you end up taking a few stabs at it! On the Dolomites (sprint) you have to remove the whole centre tunnel and cowl to bleed the clutch from the inside. On all the Dolomites the choke cable is attached to a plastic insert that has the main vent and cigarette lighter. This is held in by 2 screws and always breaks on the mount. Also the lower parcel shelf can sag and your feet get stuck between it and the pedals.

Maybe I missed something when I did it, but I'm pretty certain that in replacing the radiator hoses on a Jag XJ6 the easiest way is to remove the power steering pump before attempting the lower hose!

For some reason (only known to them) Ford saw fit to NOT put a drain plug in the gearboxes of 2002 Focuses.
Making an awkward clutch change into a bloody messy, filthy, slippy, clutch change when you tilt the box slightly and it deposits its contents out of the driveshaft holes.....

They also seem to have modeled the material of the steering wheel on a geriatric pirates face....

supprised no one has mentioned 90's ford temperature gauges! ![](http://www.capripower.co.uk/cerberus/sierrabig.jpg) Cant remember if my sierra's were the same as the granada. But its utter Bullplop. I got the granada very hot playing on a snowy roundabout. I even had a new warning light on the dash warning me of some liquid (either coolant or oil) being too hot. yet the temp gauge was reading just above the O in norm. Mk3 granada washers. If you have the front windows open and wash your windscreen the resulting water blows into then interior and soaking the window and mirror controls on the door card. Mk3 granada 2.5 diesel: You have to remove the steering column off the rack to get any access to the starter motor. And then 1 of the bolts still seems impossible to get to. (luckily for me, someone else has had the starter motor off before and kindly left this bolt out) Mk3 granada 2.5 diesel: theyve mounted the coolant expansion tank on top of the rocker cover. Mk3 granada 2.5 diesel: the idle control screw is mounted in between the block and the pump making it virtually impossible to undo and tighten the locking nut with a spanner whilst hold the thread with a screwdriver. Mk3 granada 2.5 diesel: oil cooler located at the bottom of the front bumper with no protection meaning anything sharp / reasonable size will break it causing all the oil to come out and you going no where. But it gets better. They used the same fittings on each end of the cooler, so even though the flexy's are long enough, you cant join them together to get you home without an adaptor.

Mk3 fiesta. Electric window switches which can only be reached in reverse second or fourth if you have large hands.
And the fuel filler pipe behind the wing that allows prodigious amounts of wet muck to sit there to rot the wing out.

This thread rumbles on! Makes me glad I use old cars as it seems to be newer more complicated stuff that suffers from excess (or lack of) design. Or maybe people expect too much?

My Golf's wipers that auto park at the bottom and the fact you have to follow the following procedure to get them to park at the top so you can change the blades (wiper arms hit the bonnet in the parked position)
Turn ignition on - off - press wiper stalk down to single wipe.
Which sounds simple... when you have the user manual to hand and your not in halfords car park.
Another thing - to change a bulb on the rear cluster, you have to try and pull the carpet back (no access hatch) then you have to unbolt the light cluster from the car as the bulbholders are part of the light unit. The user manual actually says that you should take the car to a trained mechanic for a bulb change! ffs
There are also no safe jacking points underneath it either, you have to cut a slot in a hockey puck and use the sill..
Every single thing that would normaly be a simple maintenace job seem to require google/user manual. Bloody moderns!

Porsche 911 996 (probably Boxster too)
The rear spoiler comes up at 75mph (apparently) then stays up until you drop below 40mph so is a nice telltale that doesn't go away someone was speeding. Manual override is down by your foot so not easy to control on the go. Not possible to override the ECU on this one.
The boot catch for the battery is electric or mechanical with electric lock jams - if the battery goes flat you can't open the boot to recharge it without energising the circuit through the fuse box or dismantling stuff to get at the release cables.
Intermediate mainshaft bearing can instantly and unpredictably disintegrate and destroy the engine, hence lots of sub 10K Porsche 996s

Skoda Roomster, and probably more VAG kit. Take key out of ignition, open fuel flap, put key into locking fuel cap, undo lock, this means gripping the key base, which locks the doors, which means if you have a passenger who moves when you are partway through filling up, the alarm activates. If you plip the locks to open them and cancel the alarm and no one opens a door, the doors relock...... Oh what fun can be had until you realise what is going on.

Mitsubishi starion- when it's sunny, the speedo surround part of the dash reflects up into the windcscreen and makes it difficult to see out of. Will be getting this part flocked soon.
VW passat b5.5 saloon, no rear wiper. Think it should have one as i would like to see out the rear when it's raining ha.

The new Astra VXR has stop-start. If you pull up to a halt and stick it in neutral, the engine turns off. But it turns itself back on again if you open the door. Er... wtf?

I know. It also has an electronic handbrake, which I'm filing under 'design faults' because IT IS SH!TE.

Nearly crashed into the wall of my work trying to do a slide in the snow - it puts all 4 brakes on lol My boss was not impressed lol
