Putting this up for sale as I've got a Disco on LPG instead so can't be had to finish this. It won't be available until I've got the plate off though as the previous owner wants this back. Couple of weeks I'd have thought. It's a 2000 X reg 4.6 (thor) Vogue Dark metallic blue with cream leather interior No tax or test Bought it a while ago, then moved house so it got put on the back burner. Head gaskets had gone so these have been done, problem now is it's leaking water from some hoses somewhere. Only other problem is the drivers door doesn't open so will need the door panel removing & this sorting. More fiddly than difficult or costly. MASSIVE folder of history detailing all the new parts it's had in the past few years. I've only put the £1500 asking price so the mods don't spank me! Might break if I get enough interest but I really can't be assed!

What LPG system is it please? Also, how many miles has it done, and does the suspension go up and down as it should?
Finally. Is it definitely just a water pipe that's losing water? I do like these later P38's, but know how problematic and expensive they can be when things go wrong!

If you can't see water on the floor then more likely a porous block which the 4.0/4.6 are famous for engine swap the only safe option unless you invest in getting the block machined for top-hat liners The door issue is more likely a central-locking unit failure than anything simple(again a common issue) there are about four different types due to wiring changes but I think all but one version can be bodged into any year easily and are available second-hand for about 20-45quid each This one looks good on the outside compared to some of the sheds out there so it would be worth sorting out GLWTS Steve

tbh honest ceramic seal does a great job of sealing the porus blocks, did it all the time when I worked in a specialist and my own personal 4.6HSE with a porus block has been fine for 8 years and 65k now, was only cerami-sealed once...so I'd consider that properly fixed..
Looks a nice specced car, certainly worth the money, and if you are prepared to learn their foibles I'd say in real world terms they are no more difficult or troublesome than a classic, it's just the 'trad' LR CROWN get scared of anything they cant fix by beating on it with a lump hammer..

^^^^^ Agreed, if you can't fix it with a hammer then it's an electrical fault!
GLWTS.
Edit: If you have only put £1500 to get round the mods, then how much are you wanting?

Could this be driven with the water issue, or is it losing water too quickly. Do you have any interior pictures and can you confirm it is losing water outside the engine, don't like the sound of this porous block!!
Also, unless DVLA have changed it, I'm afraid it will have to be T&T to remove the plate. Unless you have already done it before the T&T lapsed of course!

All I know is its now losing water from the hoses. I'm thinking they're brittle from it overheating when the head gasket went? I've spoke to DVLA & as its been sorned for less than a year, I can still take the plate off. I thought it had to be t&t'd too, so that's a result! Only problem is I've lost the v5 in the house move so I've had to send off for a new one! :-( Another £25 down the pan! It's a lovely car and in answer to the suspension question, yeah, it goes up when it should & I also have the plug in thingie to reset the air suspension too! :-) The door handle was stiff when I got it & I think the bloke who transported it down to me finished it off! Knowing the way door mechs work in general, I'm inclined to think a rod has come off or snapped or something. £1500 is what I think its worth to be honest but like I said, it'll be a few weeks before I can get it go as I need to jump through DVLA's hoops for a bit!

Timescales are no problem for me. I'd be interested in hearing about the gas system though; what make, multi/single point, where the tank is and whether it has a certificate.
Cheers

The 4.0 is basically the same engine as the 3.9 with a better oil pump, (they are both 3.9 capacity) it's funny how people think the 3.9 is bullet proof and the 4.0 trouble when 98% of the components interchange...
My 4.6 has been fine on lpg and I know of two which are well over 250k on lpg worked hard towing everyday with no problems at all, so I don't think they're 'weak' per se bar the porus block problem, everything else mechanically is well proven in other Land Rover products..
It's again funny that people think disco 2's are bullet proof when again most of the drivetrain is amazingly similar if not identical to the P38...

I don't know of a single person that thinks a Disco 2 is bullet proof, I know more people that are affraid of them due to being unreliable.
Mine certainly isn't.

As with any car, finding a car with a 'good' LPG conversion is tricky. The amount of cars I have seen with leaky T Pieces (leading to overheating) is unreal.
I shall spread the word to my friend. It certainly looks appealing at that price.

Is it possible to see where the leak is?
