I'm afraid that I have done very little work recently.....a combination of cold wet weather, lack of "mojo" and a resurgence of railway related involvement. I have even toyed with the idea of selling "as is" but I would like to at least get the engine running just to hear that V12...... Perhaps if I spent more time in the garage and less on the keyboard?

I often wonder what other people make of these threads as there must be a lot of "viewers" who never post comments... That would include me Some threads I've not noticed before (including this one. Love the mad idea and how you're doing it !), others I dip into just to follow the progress, some are trying something that I've tried before - in which case I feel it's often worth adding a comment (even if it's just something simple like "That's a silly idea - I know because I tried it and I've still got the photos / scars to prove it" ) Keep up the good work, updates as well please ( I'll try to check back in March - I need to strip & rebuild my engine asap as I need the car working to move house early April. Lots of March deadlines on the forum )

Well the weather is warmer and so I have finally got out into the garage and made progress - well I have bonded the mesh filters onto the ram pipes! Still it is a start .....

....and a bit more progress as I have now got the fuel system(delivery) piped up. However I still have not put a fuel return line in. I think it is usual on downdraft carbs to reduce the chance of fuel vapourisation? The IDF carbs have the extra outlets, but I may block them just to get the engine started this month.

Is the Jaguar badge trying to do a runner in protest at mistreatment ?! I think it fell off with fright! At some stage I will be repainting or stripping the cam covers so it may (or may not) be stuck back on....

The fuel return system is now in place and nearly finished. There is a black tube running between the front two carbs and from the back two carbs they go to a "T" connector and back to the tank. I need to put more fuel in the tank to test it out - and get a battery to get the starter motor and ignition system wired up.

Now that looks awesome! Nothing better than twin carbs on mass. Sure you know this but those seive filters aren't great for flow, but they do the job for getting things running

Great to see this moving along Are you sure you are supposed to have a fuel return line on the IDFs? I thought the angled 'output' was for linking carbs in dual carb set ups?

Hi Sonus The carbs I am using come from Alfa Romeo Sprint 1.7 engines and are matched pairs. One has two equal(large Dia)fuel pipes, one is from the pump and the other goes to the other carb (large dia tube.) The other fuel pipe on this carb is a smaller diameter to return fuel to the tank. I have juggled the pipe sizes and put additional pipes into the centre carbs to get my system in the same basic layout. I think some of the earlier carb pictures in the thread show these pipes more clearly.

Never knew Alfa boxer IDFs were available with return lines. Was it to make the fuel pumps job easier?

Never knew Alfa boxer IDFs were available with return lines. Was it to make the fuel pumps job easier? I don't know about that, but, I suspect it may have been to reduce the fuel vaporisation, as the twin IDFs would be directly above the cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds. Having the fuel, or part of it, circulating back into the tank would reduce the heating effect.

In the meantime, I have bought a battery and some more petrol so there is now fuel in the carbs! The engine also turns over on the starter....and I am looking at the ignition amplifier, coils and wires! Rather than have the main coil and amplifier up at the back of the engine, I am looking at the idea of a plate to hold both coils and amplifier at the front of the block.

Showed the housemate pics of this engine, and then what it was in, and it both amused and impressed him. As did the tea strainers.
