Does the oil cooler have a thermostat in there, or is it permanent flow? I'd guess you wouldn't want to find you've only got oil going through the filter when it's up to temperature?
Sound idea though, I've done it myself using a filter Base plate, a bit of 2 mm steel and an old bearing race from a Discovery. A bit more heavy duty, but did the same job.

Yes - Darkspeed has got the idea, The remote filter will replace the oil cooler and the shorty empty filter can is just to get the oil to flow through to the remote filter. I had done a similar job on my V8 Sprite years ago (Ye gods ....30!!) and it is still doing the job.

Big Thanks to Guy (Bigyellataxi) - I now have the pipework to attach the remote filter to the oil circuit. I will need to make a bracket to support the filter on the engine block.

Here you go - the oil pipes in place but a fixing bracket for the remote filter needs to be made And I am making a start on the electrics using bits from the XJ-S loom to the instruments.

Oil filters, electrics, bling hubs and paint? Must be ticking the jobs off nicely now.

Here is the NS Rear hub - polished but more to do. ........and the oil filter has been brazed and leak tested. It will be carefully cleaned inside and checked when the engine turns over.

A bit more progress as I have trial fitted the shortie empty oil filter case and proper oil filter. Then I couldn't resist a bit more rattle can spraying - and yes it will get a proper spray job later!

Thanks varelse - it was a quick visual change to regain enthusiasm.... Anyway I have been stripping the wiring loom to extract a simple wiring system......but I'm not sure if it is worth it? So to cheer myself up I've spent money on this from JJC Rally (good price and very good service - ordered on Monday!)

Loving this build. What have you done with the Alfa?
That REALLY floated my boat.

Loving this build. What have you done with the Alfa? That REALLY floated by boat. Glad that you are enjoying the BGT build. The Alfa Sprint 6C is ready for the road this year. I sorted the slave cylinder... then radiator.... then expansion bottle! It has MoT and insurance - just need to get it off SORN.

So am I John! In the meantime I have had to rejig the oil filter circuit to make sure the flow direction through the filter was correct and then I filled the filter and bowl with oil ready for turn-over... start up?? Then, as I had the welder today, I put in the final bit of floor, the bracket for the master cylinder, the steering column, the top part for the trailing arm front mounts and altered the geometry of the brake foot pedal and accelerator pedal (no clutch as it is an Automatic).

I have now got some Lexan (Thanks to Geof Hauser HRC) so I can get the side windows made. I must however confess that, as all the major aspects have got sorted, and it is just Lots of small "finishing" jobs to do, my motivation is flagging. Is it lack of sunshine, old age or .....?

I hear you, and it is a largely inevitable part of such an epic battle: someone has to mop up the battlefield and that job sucks!
What I have learned is to not put all the cleaning and painting of the bits and bobs till the end. If you do, you have a long slog of wire wheeling, sanding and painting of things like brakes, suspension and interior bit. I try to weave these side projects into the more fun big fabrication task and then when I get to a certain point it pays off as you get to bolt the clean pieces on to motivate you at the end.
Keep going.
