Thanks Adam. The manifold parts are now at Webster Race Engineering to be welded together and Yes - Jon Webster said they would need bolting down to prevent too much movement when welding.

There has been a slight change of plan as Websters now have a lot of work on race cars at present, and my job would have been put way back, so I have now found another, local, Welder to take on the inlet manifold.

I was able to help the welder today and all 6 of the inlet manifolds are now tacked together. It was a very fiddly job as they all needed to be positioned on the cylinder head to get the positions correct but needed tacking to get them to stay together in position.... .....so four hands were a big advantage! They should be finished early next week:bigsmile:

I hope to get a fair bit done this year and I now have the first lot of manifolds welded - Thanks to Marton Engineering - I will be removing all the lumps and bumps.

All the flanges are welded and I will be tidying them up - but I couldn't resist putting them all on the block with the carbs and ram pipes........

How much did the aluminium welding cost out of interest?

How much did the aluminium welding cost out of interest? PM sent. But the cost was, I thought, very reasonable for the time taken and degree of difficulty. It is possible to buy a new set of 40 IDF carbs and manifolds from Webcon - but my SH DiY is about 25% of that figure.

With all those Webers it was not surprising that one had a seized butterfly spindle so I had to carefully remove the riveted over end piece (at the seized end), then tap the spindle from side to side before I could get it to reluctantly (Very) turn fully open so the butterfly plates could come out, then the roll pin on the accelerator crank had to be drifted out. Finally the spindle was "persuaded" out. The alloy had corroded and so it was all cleaned up and re-assembled......Smooth operation now!

This is such a great build! Where did you get the ram pipes? I'm putting some bike carbs on my MX5 engined Amazon and I need some long ram pipes like yours, I can only find diddy ones for some reason!

Nice work. I seem to remember 4 valve heads being built for these by someone many years ago, do you know of them or are there any still about, they made the engine a fair bit bigger and heavier though. (hope this isnt already in this thread as I waded in late)

The Jacuar prototype V12s had DOHC heads. You can read pretty much ANYTHING about these here: xj13.eu - take a bit of time, it's quite a mind blowing project! I'm liking this battery of stacked webers a LOT!! In fact, I think I'm a bit hard right now! Too bad i faff about with turbo engines, they will never look as cool as this!! Can't wait for the finished car!

XJ13, I was passed by one of these and an XJ220 in convoy last week on the A303, I didnt know what the XJ13 was at the time, it was such a cool sight seeing such rare cars cruising in formation at speed together, I tried in vain to explain to the wife sat beside me how special the 220 is. Unfortunately one of them succumbed to the Stonehenge traffic jam shortly after as both were pulled over onto the grass as us mere civilians shuffled past in the traffic jam I think TWR or someone built them for the Le Mans Jags in the 90's (I havent read the above yet)

Thanks for the comments. I believe there is only one "genuine" XJ13, but there are some kits based, more or less, on it. The XJ13 website quoted is fascinating, as it is a "Tool Room" copy of the original version of the XJ13 with an original (one of six?)DOHC V12.

Yeah there's only one original XJ13, it was on show at the Coventry motofest show a couple weeks ago, I can confirm the dohc v12 sounds awesome Though the other sohc v12 racers there sounded pretty good too!

Neville's car is a beast, and its just gone for its exhaust with some very nice photos appearing on Facebook. He was going for an XJS V12 in it until a late night e-mail with a link to Ebay's German outlet and a very dirty looking siamese twin XK looking engine.
